Welcome!  I'm happy to have you in this course.  You are to have completed the prerequisites, Math 063 and Math 070 before enrolling in trigonometry.

The textbook for this course is Trigonometry, 6th Edition, by McKeague & Turner.  Included in your handouts is a schedule showing the sections that will be covered each day along with examination dates.

A graphing calculator is highly recommended.  If you do not already have a graphing calculator, you may wish to purchase the TI-84 Plus (which runs $90 - $100), since demonstrations will be given in class using the TI-84 Plus.  However, only a scientific calculator is required which you can get for $12 – $15.  On most examinations, calculators will not be allowed.  Homework is assigned at every class meeting.  It is most beneficial if you can do your homework as soon after class as possible.

You will have five 1-hr. exams worth 50 points each.  No makeup exams will be given.  If you know ahead of time that you will have to miss an exam, it may be possible to arrange for you to take the exam at a different time.  Also, you will have 5 homework quizzes, each of which will consist of 3 – 5 homework exercises and you may just copy the problems and solutions right from your homework.  Each quiz is worth 5 points and will be given the day after each exam.  You will have a comprehensive final exam worth 100 points.  Your Iowest score of Exams 1 – 5 will be replaced with half your final exam score if that increases your total points.  In summary, your grade in the course will be determined by your percentage of the total points possible in the class, which are:

            Exams                                                                         250

            Comprehensive Final Exam                                       100

            Homework Quizzes                                                      25

                                                                        Total Points     375

I use the standard grading scale of 90% - A, 80% -89% - B, etc.; however, if you score lower than a total of 13 points on your homework quizzes, you cannot make higher than a “C” in the course.
