SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Left fielder Tyreace House was the 184th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft by the Oakland Athletics on Thursday afternoon. House joins former College of the Canyons pitcher Dana Eveland, and current starting A’s hurler, as a member of Oakland’s organization.
Two-time first-team all-conference and All-America honoree House made a drastic move in the draft from the 40th round in 2006, to the 49th round in 2007, to the sixth round this year.
The sixth round pick is the highest selection for a COC player in the MLB Draft since head coach Chris Cota was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the third round of the 1986 draft.
The Palmdale alum, who was known as the fastest member of the 2008 Western State Conference Champions, topped the team in runs scored (55), steal attempts (35) and stolen bases (31). The sophomore hit .348 this season and had a .428 on-base percentage.
