5-22-10 Honeycutt Earns State Title In 800-Meter Run

LANCASTER, Calif. -
Western State Conference and Southern California Champion Corey Honeycutt added one more honor to her already amazing 2010 season with a state title on Saturday afternoon in the 800-meter run. Honeycutt posted a 2:15.93 in very cold and windy conditions and beat out Danielle Low of L.A. Trade Tech, who finished less than a second behind her. The state title is the first for head coach Lindie Kane who is in her 16th season. Kane came close to helping a student-athlete win a title in 2008 when Alfredo Coronado came in second place in the 1,500-meter run at the state meet. Also competing in the meet was decathlete Mario Wright and high jumper Ashley Mason. Wright came in eighth place with 5,664 points despite not clearing a height in the pole vault. Mason leaped 1.54 meters (5-1) in the high jump, good for 10th place.

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. -
College of the Canyons Corey Honeycutt ran a 2:09.67, a school record time in the 800-meter run at the Southern California Finals on Saturday, good for first place and a bid to the state championships on May 21-22. High jumper Ashley Mason also will be making the trip to Antelope Valley College for the state championships after clearing 5-3 and finishing in fifth place in the high jump. Mario Wright will compete in the decathlon as well, after qualifying for the state meet earlier in the season. The State Championship will take place on May 21-22 at Antelope Valley College.

4-30-10 COC Advances 17 To Southern California Prelims

MOORPARK, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons track and field team qualified for 17 events in this upcoming week's Southern California Prelims at the Western State Conference Finals meet on Friday afternoon. COC brought home two individual women's conference titles in the 800-meter run and high jump. Corey Honeycutt, who has been improving meet after meet, turned in a 2:16.48 in the 800 and then broke the school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:44.00. She finished in second place in the 1,500-meter run. Two-sport athlete Ashley Mason cleared 5-1 in the high jump for the conference title. She also was the fourth-place finisher in the long jump, leaping 16-11 1/2. In men's action, Matt Harmon was second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.56, followed closely by Mario Wright in third with a time of 15.67. The Cougars will travel to the Southern California Prelims on Saturday, May 8 at Saddleback College.

3-19-10 Men Take Second In Second Conference Meet

VENTURA, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons men's track and field team finished in second place in their second conference meet of the season. COC narrowly beat out third-place Santa Barbara by 2.5 points and only 11.5 points separated the five teams in second through fifth place. Host Ventura won the meet with 121 points. Mario Wright turned in two top performances in the 110-meter hurdles (15.31) and in the high jump (6-4). COC swept the hurdles when Matt Harmon turned in a 55.46 in the 400-meter hurdles, while Chris Gill clocked a 1:57.50 in the 800-meter run, good for first place. The track and field team will travel to the Antelope Valley Quad on Friday, March 26 at 10 a.m.

3-13-10 COC's Men's Track and Field Team Earns Three First-Place Finishes

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
-The College of the Canyons men’s track and field came in third at the Bakersfield Relays on Saturday. Matt Harmon finished in first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.46. Mario Wright leaped 6-4 in the high jump, which landed him in first place and Caleb Kellog also came in first in the pole vault with a time of 13-0. COC will head to a conference meet on Friday, March 19 at Ventura College.

2-24-10 Men's Track and Field Hope To Top Conference in 2010

Under the direction of seasoned coach Lindie Kane, the 2010 College of the Canyons Track and Field program has the potential for another state-qualifying year. Coming off a rare, middle of the pack 2009 season where both the men and women finished in sixth place in the WSC, Coach Kane is confident that this year will be different.

2-20-10 Cougars Have Momentum After Cerritos Invite

NORWALK, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons men's track and field team had a strong showing at the non-team-scoring Cerritos Invite on Saturday afternoon. Two-sport athlete Mario Wright leaped 6-4 in the high jump, beating his personal best of 6-2 from last season. The sprint medley relay of K.J. Comrie , Matt Harmon, Michael Crutcher and Chris Gill finished in third place with a time of 3:36.61 and Harmon also came in sixth with a time of 15.30 in the 100-meter hurdles. COC will return to action on Feb. 26 for the WSC Relays at Ventura College.
