3-21-12 Four Cougars Named All-Conference

– Following its run to a Western State Conference (WSC), South Division, title, the College of the Canyons women's basketball team had three of its players – sophomore forward Angelica Sahagun, sophomore forward Jazzmyn Davis and freshman guard Amanda Ajdari –  earn First-Team All-Conference honors.

2-25-12 COC Falls To Cerritos In Second Round of Playoffs

– The College of the Canyons women's basketball team fell to the Cerritos College Falcons in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association women's basketball regional tournament, 79-60, Saturday at Gahr High School. The Cougars finished their season at 19-11 and the loss ended an eight-game win streak.

–The College of the Canyons women’s basketball team has earned a No. 12 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Southern Regional Playoffs and will travel to No. 5 Cerritos College for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Gahr High School.

2-4-12 Weaver Scores 30, Cougars Tied For First Place In Conference

Sophomore Bev Weaver scored 30 points and hit six three-pointers to lead No. 12 ranked College of the Canyons past Bakersfield College, 89-67, on Saturday afternoon in the Cougar Cage. The victory ties the Cougars with the Bakersfield Renegades for first place in the conference with three games left on both teams regular season schedules. Canyons only trailed the Renegades in the first five seconds on the first field goal of the afternoon, and it was all COC after that. The Cougars led by as many as 27 points in the second half and held the Renegades to 25.8 percent shooting from the field. Angelica Sahagun turned in 20 points and Jazzmyn Davis had 13 points and 15 rebounds for COC. College of the Canyons will travel to West L.A. on Wednesday, Feb. 8 for a 5 p.m. match up.

2-1-12 COC Avenges Early Season Loss Against Citrus

The College of the Canyons women's basketball team continued its winning streak with a 86-66 victory over Citrus College on Wednesday night. The Cougars had lost the first match up with the Owls at the beginning of the conference season, but easily handled Citrus at home. COC's win streak improves to four games with the victory. Sophomore Angelica Sahagun led the way for COC with a 26-point and seven assist performance. Sophomore Jazzmyn Davis added 17 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman Amanda Ajdari scored 15 points and 10 assists. Canyons dominated from the opening tip and had a 19-point lead by the midway point of the first half. The second half went the same way for the Cougars and the lead grew to as many as 26. COC will remain home and host Bakersfield College on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m.

1-28-12 Canyons Defeats Valley In Overtime

Amanda Ajdari's three free throws with .04 seconds remaining in regulation and Bev Weaver's three-point shot, with the game tied in overtime, as the buzzer sounded, sparked the Cougars to the win over LA Valley 84-81. Canyons improves to 14-10 and 4-3 in conference with the second half of Western State Conference play under way. Sophomore Jazzmyn Davis turned in 15 points and a team-high 22 rebounds in the game and Bev Weaver and Angelica Sahagun both notched 21 points in the victory. The Cougars return home on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. against Citrus College.

1-18-12 COC Erases 18-point First-Half Deficit

The College of the Canyons women's basketball team won its first conference game of the season after notching a 82-77 come from behind victory over Santa Monica College on Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Angelica Sahagun scored a game-high 27 points for the Cougar. Sophomore forward Jazzmyn Davis had 17 points to go with her 17 rebounds and six rebounds. After falling behind by 18 in the first half, the Cougars came out of the break on fire and outshot the visiting Corsairs 23-7 in the first seven minutes of the half. COC took the lead at the 6:35 mark with a 3-pointer from sophomore Bev Weaver and they held on to the lead until the buzzer sounded. The victory marks the end of the Cougars five game losing streak and puts Canyons at 2-3 in conference play. COC will travel to Glendale College on Saturday, Jan. 21 for a 5 p.m. game.

1-14-12 COC Falls Short Against West LA

The College of the Canyons women's basketball team continued its losing streak on Saturday night with a 72-67 decision against West L.A. College. Freshman Angelica Sahagun had 22 points and sophomore Jazzmyn Davis added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Canyons went on an 18-8 run in the final seven minutes of the first half to trail the Wildcats by one point, 35-34. The second half went back and forth, but the Cougars got as close as one point with a minute remaining. Two missed free throws and a turnover gave West LA the win. COC will remain at home to host Santa Monica on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m.

1-7-12 COC Loses Second Consecutive Conference Game

GLENDORA, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons women's basketball team lost its second consecutive Western State Conference, South Division on Saturday night as the Cougars fell to Citrus College 57-52. COC has not lost to Citrus College since Jan. 12, 2005 when Canyons dropped a 62-60 decision at home. COC hasn't lost back-to-back conference games since that season either when the team dropped three conference games in a row. After tying the game at the five-minute mark, the Cougars tried to control the game from the free throw line, but the Owls made the free baskets down the stretch. Jazzmyn Davis had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds and Angelica Sahagun had 13 points and 12 rebounds. COC will travel to Bakersfield College on Wednesday, Jan. 11 for a 5 p.m. game.

1-4-12 Cougars Drop Conference Home Opener

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
The COC women's basketball team shot 22.5 percent from the field in its conference home opener against L.A. Valley and the team fell 78-45 to the visiting Monarchs. COC got 20 points from Angelica Sahagun and 13 points from Amanda Ajdari, but the rest of the team combined for 12 points total. Canyons had trouble from the start and fell behind 38-19 at halftime. Things got worse for COC as they shot 18.4 percent from the field in the second half and only put up 26 points. COC will travel to Citrus College on Saturday, Jan. 7 for a 5 p.m. match up.

12-11-11 Canyons Falls In Championship Game
PASADENA, Calif. -
In a hard fought contest, the College of the Canyons women's basketball team lost in the Championship game of the Pasadena College/Rose City Classic, 71-65, to Pasadena City College on Sunday afternoon. Angelica Sahagun's 21 points wasn't enough to overcome the Lancers as the Cougars fall to a season record of 6-4. Canyons led by two points late in the second half but a string of missed shots around the basket and some untimely turnovers led to their demise. Bev Weaver and Sahagun were named to the All-Tournament Team. The Cougars return to action next week at the Orange Coast Tournament when they face Cuesta in a first round game.

12-9-11 COC Wins Opening Round of Rose City Classic
PASADENA, Calif. -
College of the Canyons women's Basketball opened the Pasadena Rose City Classic with a bang, disposing of Butte College, 110-59, on Friday. It was the first time for the Cougars hitting the century mark in scoring this season. With a commanding 51-24 lead at halftime, COC continued to force the pace with their relentless fast break. Sophomore guard Bev Weaver led four Cougar players in double figures, with a career high of 32 points. Jazzmyn Davis added 22 points and 11 rebounds, Angelica Sahagun pumped in 18 points and Leilani Young hit four 3- pointers off the bench for 12 points. The Cougars will play Los Angeles Pierce in a semi-final match tomorrow at 6 p.m.

12-7-11 Cougars Defeat Cypress In Season Home Opener
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons women's basketball team (4-3) won its season home opener with a 78-62 victory over the Cypress Chargers (7-4) on Wednesday evening in the Cougar Cage. The Cougars were led in scoring by sophomore Jazzmyn Davis with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Angelica Sahagun also contributed a double-double with 19 points and a game high 20 rebounds. COC led 36-33 at the half and used a 16-7 run in the first six minutes of the second half to pull away from the Chargers. Both teams didn't shoot well in the contest, including the Cougars who shot 36 percent from the field, to Cypress' 30.5 percent. The Cougars will return to action on Friday, Dec. 9 as they travel to the three-day Rose City Classic at Pasadena City College.

11-27-11 COC Comes In Third At Ventura Tournament
VENTURA, Calif. -
For the third time in four years (Canyons won the tournament in 2010), the College of the Canyons women's basketball team claimed third place at the Ventura College-Kiwanis Club Tournament of Champions with a 98-75 victory over Taft College on Sunday. The Cougars fell behind early but mounted a ferocious comeback late in the first half to lead at halftime, 47-35. Bev Weaver's four 3-pointers in the first half paced Canyons to the early lead . The second half proved much like the first half with the Cougars fast breaking to bust the game open midway through the second half. Jazzmyn Davis led four Cougars with double figures scoring 24 while Amanda Ajdari's 21 and 14 assists, Weaver's 17, Angelica Sahagun's 12 and Casey Scheller's 10 off the bench paced the scoring. Sahagun, who suffered a minor injury midway through the second half and didn't return, was named to the All-Tournament team. The Cougars are off for 10 days and return to campus on Dec. 7 for their home opener against Cypress.

11-26-11 Canyons Can't Get Past Mt. SAC
VENTURA, Calif. -
It was deja vu all over again as College of the Canyons fell to the state's No. 1 team for the second time in 14 days, 67-61, in the semi-finals of the Ventura College-Kiwanis Club Tournament of Champions on Saturday. Angelica Sahagun scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Cougars. No other COC player scored in double figures, although Jazzmyn Davis had 13 rebounds. The contest went back and forth for most of the game with the Mounties leading at the half, 28-26. The Cougars took a one-point lead midway through the second half, but struggled from the foul line down the stretch. COC missed 16 free throws in the contest. COC will play Taft in the third-place game on Sunday.

11-25-11 Cougars Clobber Sequoias In First-Round Game
VENTURA, Calif. -
Behind Angelica Sahagun's 26 points and 11 rebounds and Jazzmyn Davis' 21 points and 11 rebounds, defending tournament champion College of the Canyons defeated College of the Sequoias, 83-49, in the opening round of the 14th Annual Ventura College-Kiwanis Club Tournament of Champions on Friday afternoon. After a sluggish start, when the Cougars fell behind 11-2 to open the contest, COC ran off 11 straight points to take the lead and never trailed again in the game. Leading 32-24 at the half, the Cougars exploded for 51 second half points for the win, its second of the young season. Amanda Ajdari's 12 assists and Delisa Chapman's 14 rebounds contributed to the 34-point victory. The Cougars will play tomorrow in the tournament semifinals against undefeated Mt. San Antonio College, the state's No. 1 ranked team at 5 p.m. It is a rematch of a game played last week, when the Mounties defeated COC, 65-55, at Mt. SAC.

11-13-11 Cougars Drop Game To San Bernardino
WALNUT, Calif. -
In the third place game of the Mt. SAC Tip-Off Tournament, College of the Canyons was soundly defeated by San Bernardino Valley, 74-50, on Sunday. The Cougars were out-played and out-matched in almost every facet of the game as San Bernardino Valley jumped all over the Cougars early and often, cruising to a 42-21 halftime lead. Amanda Ajdari finished with 16 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Cougars will go back to work and prepare for the College of the Sequoias, their first round opponent in the Ventura-Kiwanis Club Classic at Ventura College on Friday, Nov. 25.

11-12-11 COC Falls To Mt. SAC
WALNUT, Calif. -
For 35 minutes, the Cougars went toe-to-toe with the state's pre-season No. 1 team, before stumbling towards the end and dropping a 60-50 game to the Mounties in the semi-finals of the Mt. SAC Tip-Off Classic on Saturday. With 10:02 remaining in the second half, the Cougars took the lead by one point behind Angelica Sahagun's 16 points, but were outscored 10-2 down the stretch to go down to Mt. SAC. Sahagun added 10 rebounds in the contest. No other Cougars scored in double figures. COC will face No. 6 San Bernardino Valley in tomorrow's third-place game at 1 p.m.

11-11-11 Cougars Defeat Mira Costa In First Game of the Season
WALNUT, Calif. -
In the opening round of the Mt. SAC Tip-Off Tournament, College of the Canyons opened the season with a 76-59 victory over Mira Costa College on Friday. Angelica Sahagun led the Cougars with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jazzmyn Davis added 17 points and eight boards and Bev Weaver contributed 16 points in the win. After a slow start that saw the Cougars lead 33-28 at the half, COC started to wear down Mira Costa, with their fast break style and outscored the Spartans 12-0 in one two-minute stretch. The Cougars will face host Mt. SAC in the tournament semifinals on Saturday evening.
