Vice President's Message

Fall 2011

2011-12 marks the fifth year of operation at the beautiful Canyon Country Campus, with many exciting developments on the horizon.

In 2010-11 the campus offered 537 class sections and served a total of 10,407 students (Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring terms). Of the 1100+ students who graduated from College of the Canyons in June 2011, 68% took at least one class at the Canyon Country campus. We are pleased that the Canyon Country Campus is part of the path students are taking to achieve their goals and realize their dreams. Students who attend classes in Canyon Country enjoy the easy to navigate campus, the great quality of instruction, the variety of classes and student support services available, and the overall majestic setting of the campus. Our fall enrollment of over 4600 students at the Canyon Country Campus is our largest yet – indicative of the strong demand for access to higher education in these challenging economic times.

The Canyon Country Campus Applied Technology Complex will open in Fall 2011, offering state of the art classrooms and lab facilities for programs in Automotive Technologies, Plumbing, and Alternative Energy – Solar. A Ribbon Cutting is planned for the week of August 22nd as we unveil this latest addition to the Canyon Country Campus.

We also have added five additional modular classrooms along Cougar Way to support more classes in general education, art and transfer courses. One additional modular has been added to provide faculty offices for our growing campus.

We have some exciting campus events planned for Fall 2011. We will offer a campus Star Party, always a popular event for students and the community. We also expect to host a Movie Night in the Carl A. Rasmussen Theater, weather permitting! Look for more news to come on both events.

As we enter our fifth year, I continue to be impressed by the commitment of our students to achieve their academic and professional goals through higher education. The Canyon Country Campus is here to support our students in identifying their goals, mapping a course of action, overcoming obstacles, and realizing their dreams. The innovative spirit and can-do attitude is evident in students, faculty and staff the moment you step on the Canyon Country Campus.

Those of us who are fortunate to work at the campus marvel at the natural beauty of the Canyon Country Campus. The majestic hillsides above the campus, coupled with beautiful chaparral terrain surrounding the campus, makes the new campus feel worlds apart from the hustle and bustle of Sierra Highway below us. The Canyon Country Campus is indeed a special place, where dreams can take root, while future opportunities soar.
