Health Services

Individual Counseling

Individual nutrition and mental health counseling are available to all College of the Canyons students through the Student Health & Wellness Center. Education, counseling, and referrals to community resources are provided. All services are free and completely confidential, with limited legal exceptions.

Nutrition Counseling

Individual nutrition counseling is provided by Registered Dietitian Sheri Barke. Sessions are short term (6 sessions per semester) and may cover a variety of health and nutrition concerns:

  • Sports nutrition

  • Eating disorders and disordered eating

  • Weight concerns

  • Diabetes and pre-diabetes

  • High blood pressure

  • High blood cholesterol

  • Food allergies/intolerances

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

  • Pregnancy and lactation

  • Vegetarian eating

  • Iron deficiency anemia

  • General healthy eating

Mental Health Counseling

Individual mental health counseling is provided by Licensed Clinical Psychologists Fran Willson and Cynthia Zierhut. Sessions are short term (6 sessions per semester) and may cover a variety of issues and concerns:

  • Stress/anxiety

  • Shyness

  • Relationship problems

  • Divorce

  • Panic attacks

  • Physical illness

  • Anger/rage

  • Eating disorders and disordered eating

  • Depression

  • Sexuality

  • Low self-esteem

  • Sexual/physical abuse

  • Drug/alcohol abuse
