Individual nutrition and mental health
counseling are available to all College of the Canyons students
through the Student Health & Wellness Center. Education, counseling,
and referrals to community resources are provided. All services are
free and completely confidential, with limited legal exceptions.
Nutrition Counseling
Individual nutrition counseling is
provided by Registered Dietitian Sheri Barke. Sessions are short
term (6 sessions per semester) and may cover a variety of health and
nutrition concerns:
Sports nutrition
Eating disorders and disordered
eating
Weight concerns
Diabetes and pre-diabetes
High blood pressure
High blood cholesterol
Food allergies/intolerances
Irritable bowel syndrome
Pregnancy and lactation
Vegetarian eating
Iron deficiency anemia
General healthy eating
Mental Health Counseling
Individual mental health counseling is
provided by Licensed Clinical Psychologists Fran Willson and Cynthia
Zierhut. Sessions are short term (6 sessions per semester) and may
cover a variety of issues and concerns:
Stress/anxiety
Shyness
Relationship problems
Divorce
Panic attacks
Physical illness
Anger/rage
Eating disorders and disordered
eating
Depression
Sexuality
Low self-esteem
Sexual/physical abuse
Drug/alcohol abuse
