Course Description
Examines best practices of online education, including national
standards for online teaching, peer review processes, principles of
course design, usage of multi-media, and assessment tools. Appropriate
for either practicing or future teachers.

Course Requirements
Because this is a fully online course that has no onground class
meetings, all course work will be completed via a CMS/virtual
classroom. Participants will design learning units based on universal
web design . . . integrate multimedia tools . . . create online
assessments . . . evaluate emerging online communication tools . . .
design rubrics for course evaluation . . . submit sample learning units
for peer review . . . explore blogs, wikis, virtual reality . . . and
prepare to offer students a more dynamic and effective learning
experience!
Each participant will be provided with
an individual Blackboard course shell in order to complete assigned
learning activities. (Blackboard is the COC supported course management
system.)
Class Meetings
Because this is a fully online course, all class meetings occur at the
class website. 107 is like a 2-unit class, translating into 34 hours of
in-class work. Accordingly, over a period of 8 weeks, participants
should expect to spend 4-5 hours per week on the class website. In
addition to the 4-5 hours of class website participation, students will
complete home work assignments typical to all COC courses.
