The MESA Student
Study Center is located in Aliso Lab Room 114.
To use the Student Study Center, a MESA
application must be on file. Upon submission of
an application, students will be given a
validation sticker for placement on their COC
student ID card.
When visiting the
Student Study Center, all students must check in
at the reception desk and present a COC
student ID card that has a MESA validation sticker.
The
Student Study Center is a
QUIET STUDY COMMUNITY.
Quiet hours are from 9:00 AM until closing.
It is essential that
all of the students using the Study Center are
able to study effectively for their classes. To
better serve our students, we have established
the MESA Student Study Center as a quiet study
community.
WHAT IS QUIET STUDY
COMMUNITY?
A quiet study
community is a group of individuals that respect
each other’s study needs. The MESA Center is
meant to be a quiet area designed to support
this type of study community. This means that
you are permitted to talk quietly. You are
encouraged to work together in groups for your
classes, but please do so quietly. If you become
aware that your group is making too much noise,
please ask to reserve a study room. You will be
asked to take your social conversations outside.
Also remember that when you are in the MESA
Center, laptops and music devices should be used
with headphones and your cell phone should be on
silent.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Use your
“Quiet Voice” and keep discussions and
noise at a low level
Be mindful
of others and respectful of those who
are studying quietly
Take your
conversations to an area where others
will not be disturbed or distracted by
them (preferably outside)
Encourage
others to speak quietly
Set your
cell phone to silent or vibrate and take
phone conversations outside
Refrain from
any use of foul language
Refrain from
yelling, talking across the room or
speaking loudly to others in the MESA
Center
WHAT WILL MESA STAFF DO TO
SUPPORT QUIET STUDY?
Enforce a
“Quiet Study” policy
Raise
awareness about appropriate MESA Study
Center behavior
Ask anyone
making excessive noise or disturbing
other students to leave
