Our Mission

It is the mission of the Office of Student Development to develop, promote and provide educational, social, and cultural co-curricular activities that promote student development and complement academic life for the student beyond the classroom. These various opportunities enhance and develop student leadership, personal growth, interpersonal and organizational skills, and civic responsibility.  The overall aim of Student Development is to engage students with the College and promote student success, retention, and persistence.

As a member of the Student Services Division at College of the Canyons, the Office of Student Development embraces the mission of the College and supports it by:

  • Offering mentoring relationships between Student Development staff and students;
  • Enhancing the quality of student life through diverse student development programs that focus on student success and persistence;
  • Providing opportunities for students to develop academic and social competencies, and leadership skills and techniques through involvement in student development programming;
  • Advocating for students;
  • Coordinating with instruction and other student support service areas of the campus to enhance educational and student life experiences for students;
  • Giving direction and guidance to student leaders;
  • Providing services and advisement to student clubs and organizations; and
  • Serving the local community through programs and partnerships with other educational and non-profit agencies through which students provide service and meet community needs.
