SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Thirteen players from the 2008 Western State Conference Champion College of the Canyons baseball team were named All-Conference, while Cougar second baseman Brian Hernandez – who set multiple Cougar hitting records – was named Western State Conference Player of the Year. Head coach Chris Cota also earned WSC Coach of the Year honors.
Hernandez, who has already committed to one of the top collegiate programs in the nation in UC Irvine, put together a stellar 2008 campaign that saw him set Cougar records in hits (78) and doubles (24).
Hernandez hit for a stunning .456 average on the year and drove in 56 RBIs to lead the team to a 29-11 (23-5) record and its first conference championship since 2004. Hernandez also led the team in two-out RBIs with 17, and batted .480 with runners on base.
