SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons baseball team was named the No. 8 seed and will host No. 9 Cypress College for a best-of-three series in round one of the Southern California Baseball Playoffs, as announced Sunday.
The Cougars (29-11, 23-5) won their first Western State Conference South Division title since 2004, and are one of two WSC South teams in the field of 18 teams – Bakersfield College (28-16) is the No. 11 seed.
Cypress College (27-16, 12-9) finished the regular season in fourth place in the Orange Empire Conference and is one of five teams from the conference to be seeded in the top 10.
The first game will be played on Friday, May 9 at 2 p.m. Saturday’s game is slated to begin at 11 a.m. and the third game, if necessary, will begin 30 minutes following the finish of the first Saturday game. Tickets for regional game can be bought at the gate and are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
The winner of the COC/Cypress match-up will advance to the Southern California Super Regionals, which will be hosted by the two top-seeded teams remaining on May 16-18.
