SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Right-handed pitcher Ryan “China” McCarney was the 891st selection in the 29th round of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft by the Cleveland Indians Friday afternoon.
McCarney, who suffered multiple injuries this season, led the team with two saves in 12 appearances on the mound and primarily closed games for the Cougars. The Vasquez High School graduate gave up 21 hits and 19 runs, while striking out 25 in 25 innings of work. The 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound thrower was seventh on the team with a 6.48 ERA and team-high eight games finished.
McCarney is the second player to be drafted from the 2008 COC squad. Left fielder Tyreace House was picked up in the sixth round by the Oakland A’s.
