Citrus Box Score
GLENDORA, Calif. -
College of the Canyons dropped their fifth game in a row to host Citrus College Thursday, after an extra innings walk-off RBI single from Owl first baseman Kyle Nutter that ended the game at 9-8. Things started shaky for the Cougars, as starting pitcher Trevor McDonald surrendered six runs, five earned, on eight hits in just three innings of work — allowing the Owls to open up an early 6-1 lead. Despite a strong performance from Citrus starter James Jancalaes, Canyons was able to plate a run on an RBI single from Phil Bando in third. Then, with two outs in the seventh Cougars first baseman Julian Cruz and shortstop JD Pomilia hit back-to-back home runs off McDonald to make it a 6-3 Citrus advantage. Apparently sparked by the long ball, in the eighth four more Cougars crossed the plate thanks to a grand slam from designated hitter Hugo Hernandez. Then with the bases empty once gain, Cruz singled to start the second rally off the inning. Three batters later Cruz came around to score when Kyle Leon drew a bases loaded walk giving Canyons its first lead of the game at 8-6. However that lead would be short lived, as the Owls were able to score a pair of runs off Canyons reliever Robbie Mousselli to tie it at 8 apiece. Mousselli, who kept the Cougars in striking distance all game, pitched 4 and 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs on four hits and five walks, with two strikeouts. After a scoreless ninth the game went into extra frames where Nutter’s tenth inning single off Canyons reliever Charlie Gilies made Citrus the winner.

2-4-09 Cougars Come From Behind For Rare Tie
El Camino Box Score
SANTA CLARITA, Calif
. - Strange things were afoot at Cougar Field Wednesday, as the College of the Canyons baseball team played to a bizarre 8-8 tie against visiting El Camino College in the opening round of the Western State Conference Tourney. The Cougars (2-2-1) entered Wednesday’s contest on the heels of a two game losing streak. However, Canyons was again denied victory after umpires called the game due to darkness in the bottom of the ninth inning. El Camino (4-1-1) crossed home first, scoring one run off Canyons pitcher Branden Mudd in the first, and adding to the score with a five run output later in the second. In the second the Warriors loaded the bases with a walk, hit batsmen and error, before a wild pitch by Mudd brought a second run home, and knocked the young pitcher from the game. But with Warriors still spread across the base paths a crucial three hit sequence brought home four more runs to make it a 6-0 El Camino advantage. Mudd’s one-inning outing resulted in four runs on two hits, two walks and two hit batters before being replaced by right-hander Brandon James. In the other dugout, scoring off El Camino hurler Kyle Petter proved difficult until center-fielder Tucker Mabee reached on an infield error in the fifth — bringing home catcher Kyle Leon in the process. Petter’s spectacular day would eventually end, but not before he fanned 10 Canyons batters while walking four and allowing four runs, three unearned. In the top half of the sixth another pair of Warrior runners came home to post a seemingly insurmountable 8-1 El Camino advantage. But the Cougars came alive with three runs on three hits sparked by a solo homerun by right fielder Trevor Bloom. Doubles by designated hitter Robbie Mousselli and third baseman Matt Warr, combined with some costly El Camino miscues, brought home two more Cougar runs and cutting the lead to 8-4, in the process. With Petter now removed from the game the Cougs went back on the prowl in the seventh, adding another run when Warr singled to drive home Bloom. A few pitches later pinch hitter David Kaczor singled to score Mousselli and make it 8-6. In the Cougar eighth a Mouselli fielder’s choice scored another run, and two batters later Warr was hit be a pitch to score the tying run to make it 8-8. Warr finished the game 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored, while Bloom went 2-4 with a solo home run. Mousselli was 1-3 with two runs scored and RBI. After a scoreless El Camino ninth umpires called the game due to darkness.
