SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – College of the Canyons right fielder Trevor Bloom picked up Southern California All-America honors, while pitcher Trevor McDonald and third baseman Matt Warr were named to the All-Southern California team.
Bloom, who transferred from New Mexico State University after one year, finished his sophomore season as COC’s No. 2 hitter with a .378 batting average. In the Cougars loss to Saddleback College in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs, the Palmdale High School graduate went 6-for-13 with five runs scored and seven RBIs. Bloom was also the Western State Conference, South Division, Player of the Year and first-team all-conference.
McDonald, a right-hander who graduated from Valencia High, was COC’s most reliable pitcher this season. He earned his first All-Southern California honor after being named the Western State Conference, South Division, Pitcher of the Year and first-team all-conference. McDonald was the only Cougar hurler to notch a win in the postseason, improving his record to 9-0 overall on the season.
Warr played in all 45 games for COC, socked eight home runs and was sixth on the team with a .316 batting average. The Canyon High graduate was also a first-team all-conference honoree.
College of the Canyons won the 2009 conference championship and finished the campaign with a record of 26-18-1, 20-8.
