3-18-10 Cougars Take Care Of No. 5 Mission With Big Bats

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
The ball was jumping off the hot bats of the College of the Canyons baseball team Thursday afternoon, as they defeated L.A. Mission 21-12. The Cougars piled up an astonishing 21 hits including three doubles and five homeruns. Cal Vogelsang continued to stay hot, going a staggering 4-for-5, with two homeruns and six RBI day at the plate. Kenny Shanahan went 4-for-6 with two doubles and five RBI, and five other players hit at least .500 in the win. While L.A. Mission had a successful day at the plate also, garnering 16 hits and 12 runs, it wasn’t enough to disrupt the Cougars’ rampant hitting spree. Righty Charlie Gillies earned the win, improving his record to 2-1. The Cougars will travel to Bakersfield on Saturday, March 20th for a game at 1 p.m.  



3-9-10 COC Breaks Losing Streak With 5-2 Win Over L.A. Valley

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
Southpaw Devon Ramirez notched his second win from the mound as the College of the Canyons baseball squad beat L.A. Valley College 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Cal Vogelsang's two-run shot in the eighth gave the Cougars some security runs as they brought their three-game losing streak to a halt. Reliever Ben Nicewicz did some time on the hill also, throwing four scoreless innings and fanning four batters.The Cougars will travel to West L.A. on Thursday, March 11, for a game at 2 p.m.    


3-4-10 Cougar Errors Cost COC The Game

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
College of the Canyons garnered 11 hits on Thursday afternoon, but four errors and five unearned runs led to the Cougars 6-5 loss to Allan Hancock. COC opened up the game by giving up three runs in the first inning, making the Cougars have to play catch up the rest of the game. COC had a chance to take the lead in the seventh, but could only produce one run. Cal Vogelsang was 3-of-5 with 2 RBI, a double and homerun. Charlie Gillies had his first loss of the season after going for five innings. He gave up four hits, five runs (one earned) and struck out seven. The Cougars will face Allan Hancock again on Friday, March 5 at 1 p.m.

2-25-10 Final Inning Heroics Help Cougars Win Sixth Consecutive Game

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. -
Third baseman Robert Vickers hit a three RBI double in the top of the ninth inning on Thursday afternoon, to give the Cougars a 9-7 lead over Golden West College. The win marks the Cougars sixth straight win and the Cougars second win over a strong Orange Empire Conference opponent. COC trailed going into the seventh inning, 7-3, but a flurry of four hits closed the Golden West's least to one run, 7-6. With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, Robert Vickers hit a double that brought in the three runners, giving COC the lead. Pitcher Charlie Gillies threw a complete game, his first of the year and the first on the team to accomplish the feat, and improved to 2-0. In his nine innings of work, he gave up eight hits, seven runs, six earned, and struck out nine batters. The Cougars will take on Allan Hancock on March 2 in Santa Maria, after their game with Golden West was cancelled due to rain.

2-17-10 Cougars Rally In Thriller

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
A walk off grand slam by Jeremy Weber gave College of the Canyons an 11-7 victory over Cerritos on Wednesday afternoon. It was a day for big hitting as Nico Moreno and Travis McBride also homered for the Cougars, while Robert Vickers went 2-for-3 with a double, Kenny Shanahan also doubled, going 3-fo- 5, and Sean Sweeney doubled twice. Devon Ramirez secured his first win of the season from the mound, throwing five innings with only two earned runs and five strikeouts. The Cougars will next travel to Huntington Beach on Thursday, Feb. 25 to take on Golden West.

2-16-10 Cougars Defeat Defending State Champions In Non-Conference Match Up

COSTA MESA, Calif. -
Travis McBride's five RBI afternoon helped the Cougars defeat the defending state champions Orange Coast College, 15-9, on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars strung together an eight-run third inning, which was started off with a Jeremy Weber triple to right field that consequently ran in two of the Cougars eight runs. McBride was 3-of-6 on the afternoon with one homerun, his first of the season. Brian Kernochan scattered three runs on seven hits over five solid innings of work for the Cougars. COC takes on Cerritos on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.

2-11-10 Two Homeruns Give Cougars Win In Season Opener
East L.A. Box Score
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
With the help of Cal Vogelsang’s solo homer in the second and Nico Moreno's two-run shot in the fifth, the Cougars secured their first win of the season, beating East L.A. 4-2, on Thursday afternoon. Brian Kernochan earned his first win, letting up only two hits and one run in a solid five innings. At the top of the ninth, the Huskies gave the Cougars a run for their money by loading up the bases with no outs. Closer Sean Gavin came in from the pen to get the job done and received his first save of the year. The Cougars will next face L.A. Harbor at Cougar Field on Friday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m.
