5-11-13 Cougars Drop Two Games, Eliminated From Playoffs

MISSION VIEJO, Calif.
The No. 7 College of the Canyons baseball team dropped two games on Friday and Saturday to Saddleback College and Cypress College in the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Super Regional Baseball double elimination playoffs. Canyons fell to Saddleback 7-0 in Friday's game and 5-4 in the second game on Saturday against Cypress.

5-4-13 Cougars Move To Next Round After Defeating San Bernardino Valley College

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.
The No. 13 College of the Canyons baseball team defeated No. 4 San Bernardino Valley College 2-0 on Friday and Saturday in the opening round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Playoffs in a best-of-three series. Canyons, who came in as the underdog, handled the Wolverines 7-0 in Friday's game and 3-2 in the second game on Saturday.

Following a successful regular season on the baseball diamond, College of the Canyons earned a No. 13 seed and will travel No. 4 San Bernardino Valley College in the opening round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Playoffs in a best-of-three series.

4-13-13 COC Offense Powers Past Citrus

The College of the Canyons baseball team scored 15 runs off 14 hits, as they defeated Citrus College 15-3 on Saturday afternoon. COC scored seven runs in the second inning, thanks to RBI singles by outfielders Kevin Lenik and Kamran Young and a three-run triple by catcher Alex Bishop. The Cougars then scored five runs in the fifth inning, as Bishop drove in his fourth run of the day and third baseman Trey Williams hit a two-run homer. Williams and Bishop combined for three hits and six RBIs, while infielders Quincy Quintero and Chad DeLaGuerra combined for six hits and two RBIs. Pitcher Steven Farnworth allowed six hits and zero earned runs over six innings of work to receive his fifth win of the season. COC will travel to L.A. Valley on Tuesday, April 16 for a 2:30 p.m. game.

4-4-13 COC's 10-Game Conference Winning Streak Snapped by Glendale

The College of the Canyons baseball team had its 10-game conference-win streak snapped, as Glendale College defeated the Cougars 6-1 on Thursday afternoon. Pitcher Ryan Cruz suffered his first loss of the season, while giving up four runs in six innings of work. Glendale jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings. The Cougars weren’t able to score a run until the top of the ninth, when Corey Sims hit a base hit to drive in the only run of the day. Infielders Trey Williams and Quincy Quintero combined for three hits and a run scored. The Cougars will host Citrus on Thursday, April 11 for a 2:30 p.m. start time.

The College of the Canyons baseball team dominated first place Glendale College 11-5 on Tuesday afternoon to increase its conference win streak to 10. Ryan Paramo received the win, as he pitched five innings, allowed four earned runs and struck out two. Julian Garcia pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing three hits and striking out four, in his first save of the year. The Cougars scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to break open the game, while holding Glendale to just two runs. Trey Williams and Kevin Lenik each hit two-run homers, while combining for four hits and six RBIs. Infielders Ivan Vela and Chad DeLaGuerra each had two RBIs and combined for three runs scored. COC will travel to Glendale on Thursday, April 4 for a 2:30 p.m. game.

3-22-13 Cougars Defeat Bakersfield For Ninth Straight Victory

The College of the Canyons baseball team scored its ninth consecutive win on Friday, collecting a 6-4 conference victory over Bakersfield College. Steven Farnworth picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out four in six innings.  With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the top of the seventh, infielders Trey Williams and Quincy Quintero each had RBI singles to increase the Cougars lead to 5-3. Quintero had a huge day at the plate, as he went 4-for-5 with four RBIs.  Williams went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while shortstop Chad DeLaGuerra had a hit and two runs scored.  The Cougars will travel to play in the spring tournament in San Luis Obispo on Tuesday, March 26th.

3-21-13 COC Defeats Bakersfield College

- The College of the Canyons baseball team defeated Bakersfield College Thursday afternoon for the college’s eighth straight win. Bakersfield College leads the Western State, South standings with a 11-2 record and College of the Canyons is close behind in third place with a 9-4 record. During the third inning Alex Bishop hit a home run bringing in two other runs and giving the Cougars an early lead of 3-0. Shortstop Chad DeLaGuerra went 4-5 at the plate and scored two runs for the Cougars. Canyons will on the road next when they travel to Bakersfield College on Friday, March 22 for a 2:30 p.m. game.

3-19-13 Cougars Win Seventh Straight, Defeat Mission

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons baseball team won its seventh straight game with a 10-6 conference victory over LA Mission College on Tuesday afternoon. This is the third straight game that COC has scored double-digit runs, as nine Cougars in the lineup recorded at least one hit. Designated hitter Corey Sims went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Kevin Lenik went 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. COC pitchers Icezack Flemming and Allen Sarkissian combined for four shutout innings and five strikeouts. Third baseman Trey Williams and infielder Quincy Quintero combined for four hits and three RBIs. The Cougars will host Bakersfield College on Thursday, March 21 for a 2:30 p.m. game.

3-16-13 Cougars Beat Mission, Thanks To Six-Run Sixth Inning

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons baseball team won its six straight game with a 14-5 conference victory over Mission College on Saturday afternoon. Pitcher Steven Farnworth won his third game of the season, as he threw six innings and gave up three earned runs. The Cougars were up 8-5 after five innings, but then they scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open the game. Infielder Quincy Quintero started it off with a 2-run double and then right fielder Kevin Lenik hit a 3-run homer. COC relief pitchers Allen Sarkissian and Julian Garcia combined for three shutout innings, while Lenik and third baseman Trey Williams combined for two homers and four RBIs. Catcher Alex Bishop went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and an RBI. The Cougars will travel to Mission College on Tuesday, March 19 for a 2 p.m. game

3-2-13 COC Gives Up Four Runs In The Sixth, Lose To Citrus

The College of the Canyons baseball team gave up four runs in the sixth inning of Saturday’s conference game against Citrus College, losing to the Fighting Owls, 7-6, at Cougar Field. With the loss, COC falls to 1-4 in conference and 5-9 on the season. Pitcher Steven Farnworth gave up five runs and nine hits in 5.1 innings of work and suffered his second loss of the season. The Cougars made it interesting in the eighth inning, as Kevin Lenik hit a two-run homer to cut the deficit to one run. However, COC couldn’t score any runs in the final inning. Alex Bishop and Lenik combined for four hits and five RBIs. COC will travel to Citrus College on Tuesday, March 5 for a 2 p.m. game.

2-28-13 COC's Ninth-Inning Run Falls Short

The College of the Canyons baseball team gave up six runs in the sixth inning of Thursday's non-conference game against Allan Hancock, losing to the Bulldogs, 7-5, at Cougar Field. With the loss, COC falls to 5-8 on the season. After starter Julian Garcia threw five innings and only gave up one run, COC's defense gave up six unearned runs as relief pitcher Matt Blake came in the game. Canyons made a late run in the bottom of the ninth, but could only put up two more runs. Daniel Lee, Chad De La Guerra and Quincy Quintero each tallied two hits each, as the team turned in nine. COC will return to action on Saturday, March 2 as they host Citrus College at 1 p.m.

2-26-13 Paramo Throws Complete Game

Pitcher Ryan Paramo threw a complete game on Tuesday afternoon and the defense didn't allow any runners to score and the College of the Canyons baseball team beat Allan Hancock 4-0 in Santa Maria. Paramo, who struckout one and walked two, is the first Cougar to go nine innings this season and the first since John "Goggles" Salas did the same on Feb. 9, 2012. Alex Bishop and Ivan Vela combined to collect four of the Cougars seven hits, while both adding a RBI.

2-23-13 Cougars lose to Glendale College, 5-3.

The College of the Canyons baseball team lost to Glendale College, 5-3 on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, thanks to a RBI single by freshman catcher Alex Bishop and a throwing error by Glendale. The Vaqueros then scored two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead heading into the sixth inning. The COC bullpen held Glendale scoreless for the rest of the game, as freshman pitchers Chad Bennett pitched two scoreless innings and Julian Garcia threw one inning. The Cougars couldn't get anything going until the eighth inning, when sophomore right fielder Kevin Lenik started off the inning with a single and freshman shortstop Daniel Lee knocked him in for a RBI. However, Canyons couldn't score any more runs in the inning and were also shutout in the ninth inning. Bishop and Lenik combined for three hits, two runs and a RBI. Sophomore pitcher Steven Farnworth pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs in a losing effort. The Cougars will travel to Allan Hancock on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

2-22-13 Baseball Falls To Bakersfield, 13-0

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons team had just seven hits in a 13-0 conference loss to the Bakersfield College Renegades, on Friday night at Gerry Collis Field. With the loss, the Cougars fall to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Starting COC pitcher Icezack Flemming gave up seven runs, five earned, in the first three innings of the game. The Renegades added five more runs, three earned, in the sixth inning, with pitcher Michael Garcia on the mound, to put the game out of reach. Shortstop Justin Russell went 2-for-2, with a double. Designated hitter Daniel Lee collected two of the Cougars' seven hits, as he finished the night 2-for-4. College of the Canyons used a total of five pitchers in the game, whom combined to give up 13 runs (nine earned) on 19 hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. Canyons returns to Western State Conference, South Division, action on Saturday afternoon with game against the Glendale College Vaqueros. First pitch for game one of the series is scheduled for noon, in Glendale.

2-21-13 Cougars Can't Hold Off Glendale, Falls 6-4

With the score tied at 3-all after nine innings, Glendale scored three runs in the 10th inning en route to a 6-4 victory over the Cougars in the first game of a home/away series with the Vaqueros on Thursday afternoon at Cougar Field. With the loss, COC falls to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in Western State Conference, South, play. Canyons held the lead from the from the third inning to the ninth, before the Vaqueros put together their one-run ninth and three-run 10th inning. Glendale loaded the bases in the top of the 10th inning before Andre Angel hits a two-RBI single, followed by another RBI single from Glendale's Sergio Plase. The Cougars had one runner score in the bottom of the 10th, but the run was cut short. Pitcher Andy Arriaga took the loss for COC after allowing four earned runs with a walk in four innings. For the third time this season Canyons reached the 10-hit mark, matching a season-high 12 hits. Corey Sims led the Cougars with three hits, as he went 3-for-4 in the game with a run scored and an RBI. The Cougars will travel to Bakersfield tomorrow, Feb. 22, to take on the Renegades in a game that was rained out last weekend.
