The Cougars won their first Western State Conference South Division title since 2004, and headed into the playoffs as the No.8 seed in the 18-team field. COC hosted No. 9 Cypress in a best-of-three series, but injuries to the Canyons pitching corps were easily shown as the Cougars fell 2-1 in the series. Eleven players from the 2008 Western State Conference Champion College of the Canyons baseball team were named all-conference, while Cougar second baseman Brian Hernandez – who set multiple Cougar hitting records – was named Western State Conference Player of the Year. Three members of the squad – sophomore second baseman Brian Hernandez, sophomore left fielder Tyreace House and freshman designated hitter Brian Charnock –were also named to the Southern California All-America team. |
