West Covina , CA- Marcel Marquez threw for a career-high 415 yards and 2 touchdowns and Brian Stuart rushed for another 2 scores as the visiting College of the Canyons Cougars defeated the Citrus College Owls at Citrus.
Citrus jumped to a quick 7-0 lead on a fake field goal, but College of the Canyons responded quickly when, on 4th and 11, Marcel Marquez hit Chad Garett on a 29-yard touchdown pass. Jonathan Johnson added a 26-yard field goal early in the second to put the Cougars at 10-7, but Citrus College returned a tipped Marquez pass 32 yards for a touchdown to give the Owls a 14-10 lead.
From there on, the Cougars took control, scoring 27 unanswered points over the second and third quarters. Brian Stuart had a pair of 1-yard TD scores and Marquez hit Billy Omahen for a 9-yard TD pass, and also took it in himself from 4 yards out, giving the Cougars a 37-14 lead.
The Owls responded with 14 points in the fourth quarter to cut the Cougar lead to just 9, at 44-35, but Justin Tryon picked off an Owl pass and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown to ice the Cougar win.
Troy Nolan led the team defensively with 11 tackles (10 unassisted) and 1 tackle for loss. Justin Tryon had 2 interceptions on the day, one returned 71 yards for a touchdown, and alos had six tackles (5 unassisted). Joey La Rocque had another strong game with 10 tackles (7 unassisted) and 1 sack.
