Santa Clarita , CA- Thirty different Cougar defenders had at least one tackle and eight different players scored touchdowns as College of the Canyons beat up on the Brahmas at Cougar Stadium in a 58-7 win. Quarterback Marcel Marquez threw for 224 yards and 2 touchdowns and rushed for a third score and was pulled with 5 minutes left in the second quarter with the Cougars leading 30-7 at that point.
The Cougars got on the scoring track quickly and often. After Marquez hit Billy Omahen on a 10-yard touchdown pass, Shaiphan Lewis sacked Pierce quarterback Thomas Herringshaw in his own end zone for a safety. After a long B.T. Walker kick return, Brandon Clayton plunged in from 1 yard out to score just 30 seconds later for a 16-0 score only half-way through the first quarter. The three scores came in a span of :38 seconds.
Terence Scott continued the scoring early in the second quartter when Marquez hit him on a 73-yard tochdown pass. Scott finished as the night's top receiver, catching 5 passes for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. Brahma running back Erick Hatchett would score on a 1-yard run giving Pierce its only score of the night, but the Cougars would again answer quickly as Marquez ran for a 21-yard touchdown, which would be his final play of the game.
Cary Dove would take over as QB for most of the second half, and rushed the ball 9 times for 122 yards and 1 touchdown run. The TD run of 36 yards, was a dodging, weaving dash that, at one point, saw Dove simply stop on the field, then take off in a different direction.
Closing out the scoring in the second half were runningbacks Brian Stuart with a 16-yard TD run and Kalum Harris with a 19-yard run, and quarterback Garrett Graves with a 10-yard TD run.
Joey La Rocque led the team in tackles with 6 (5 unassisted) and sacked Herringshaw on the game's first play. Shaiphan Lewis had 3 tackles and the sack for the safety, and Kava Fine 1.5 sacks.
