SANTA CLARITA, Calif - Freshman forward Wesley Bartole scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds off the bench for the College of the Canyons men's basketball team, but a 54-point second half from visiting Santa Monica College including 10 3-pointers, helped the Corsairs pull away for a 90-66 victory over Canyons on Saturday night.
COC trailed Santa Monica 36-29 at halftime and came within six points at the opening of the second half, but the Corsairs went on a scoring binge. Santa Monica reserve Everett Brown hit six of his nine 3-pointers in the second half to lead all scorers with 31 points. COC shot 38.7 percent (34-79) from the field, compared to the Corsairs who shot 43 percent (34-79). Rafael Love and Dominguez were the only starters in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively. Canyons will host its final regular season home game on Wednesday, Feb. 16 against Glendale at 5 p.m.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons men's basketball team continued its undefeated status in conference games at home this season with a 64-55 victory over West L.A. College at the Cougar Cage Saturday night. Sophomore forward Parker Dominguez led the way for Canyons (13-10, 5-2 WSC) with a 14-point and 12 rebound performance. Freshman forward Wesley Bartole added 14 points and eight rebounds, while freshman guard Davion Cotterel scored 13 points off the bench. The Cougars' defense held the Wildcats to 29 points below their season average (63.5 ppg). The win Saturday night was COC's fifth win in its last six games. COC will hit the road and take on Bakersfield on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 5 p.m.
1-26-11 COC Shocks No. 6 Citrus

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons men's basketball team knocked off No. 6 Citrus College, 82-72, to create a four-way tie for first place in the Western State Conference, South Division. Freshman forward Wesley Bartole led the way for Canyons (12-10, 4-2 WSC) with his third double-double of the year, scoring 20 points and grabbing 14 rebounds. Freshman forward Rafael Love added 25 points and six rebounds, while sophomore forward Dominguez Parker scored 10 points by going 4-of-7 from the field. COC maintained its steady defense by holding the WSC's top scoring offense to just 42.9 percent (24-of-56) on the court. It was the Cougar's first win over the Fighting Owls since Feb. 3, 2007, when COC claimed a 68-66 victory at home. Canyons was able to jump off to a fast 6-0 lead at the beginning of the game due to poor shooting by Citrus to start the game. Afterwards, the Owls were able to chip away at the lead, and get back into the contest by igniting a 5-2 run at the 17:00 mark. The Cougars opened their lead to 39-34 at the half with a 6-2 run. Leading by five at the break, COC stretched the lead to 12 in the second half, going up 78-66 with just 0:48 left in the game. College of the Canyons closed out the game in the waning seconds with clutch free throw by Love to lock up the game for Canyons.
1-22-11 Cougars Take Care of Glendale

GLENDALE, Calif. - Brad Wyche and Rafael Love combined for 47 points on Saturday night and College of the Canyons men's basketball team defeated Glendale College 80-64. Wyche led all scorers with 24 points on a 9-of-10 shooting night from the field and 6-of-7 from the 3-point line. Love was 9-of-17 from the field for 23 points and also pulled down six rebounds in the game, while Donald Smith had 10 rebounds and three assists in the win. The Cougars will return home to take on Citrus College on Wednesday, Jan. 26 for a 5 p.m. match up.
11-6-10 COC Starts Season With 2-0 Record

The College of the Canyons men's basketball team started its season out with two consecutive wins at the third annual Clash at the Canyons, by defeating East L.A., 74-67, and Santa Ana, 69-59. In the first game against East L.A. Wesley Bartole came off the bench to score 14 points on 4-for-6 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. He also added a team-high six rebounds in 25 minutes of play. In the second game, COC held off Santa Ana, despite the Dons coming back a handful of times. The Cougars would finally close it out in the final minute with solid free throw shooting. Dominguez Parker led the team with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists. COC will travel to Saddleback on Thursday for a 3 p.m. game.
