San Antonio College 93-85 in the third round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Playoffs after the Cougars turned the ball over 19 times on Wednesday evening.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. –The sixth-ranked College of the Canyons men’s basketball team outscored No. 11 Allan Hancock College 38-28 in the second half to beat the visiting Bulldogs 71-68 in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Second Round Regional game on Friday evening. Canyons will now await the winner of the No. 3 Mt. San Antonio versus No. 14 Antelope Valley, to be played on Saturday night, and will face the winner on Wednesday, March 6.

The College of the Canyons men's basketball team defeated Glendale College, 78-69 on Thursday night at the Cougar Cage in the opening round game of the Western State Conference Tournament. Sophomore guard Jaylen Bland led the way with 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists. With eight minutes left to go in the first half, COC trailed 19-17, but then went on a 13-2 run and were able to maintain control of the game from that point on. The Cougars outrebounded Glendale 16-5 on the offensive glass and this led to 10 second chance points. Sophomore forward Ron Harris had 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds, while sophomore forward Tyler Barber scored 17 points. COC then advanced to the championship game of the WSC tournament, as they took on Citrus College on Friday night. The Cougars lost 77-71 to the Fighting Owls in what was a back and forth battle. The game was neck and neck from the start with two lead changes and six first half ties in the first eight minutes. COC had 17 turnovers, while Citrus only had 10 and the Owls outscored the Cougars 34-24 in the paint. COC went 0-11 from the three-point line and shot 41.4 percent from the field in the second half. Canyons trailed 73-71 with 1:35 left to go in the game, but the Fighting Owls hit a 3-pointer and that gave Citrus the lead. Both games did not count towards the conference record, but did count towards overall records. COC finished the season with a 20-8 record and will await playoff seeding's on Monday afternoon.

The College of the Canyons men's basketball team remains undefeated in conference play and extended their winning streak to seven games, by defeating LA Valley, 78-69 on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Jaylen Bland continued his outstanding play as he scored a game high 23 points and also had five steals. The Cougars shot 45 percent from the field and the Monarchs shot 40 percent from the field. COC led 68-67 with three minutes left to go in the game, before going on a 10-2 run to secure the victory. Sophomore forward Tyler Barber had 17 points and sophomore reserve Jawhar Purdy had ten points. COC will next travel to Citrus College on Wednesday, February 6 for a 5 p.m. tip-off.

beat Glendale College 65-58 at the Cougar Cage. Glendale committed 17 turnovers and was held to 35.6 percent shooting from the field, as the Cougars shot 54.5 percent from the field. Sophomore guard Jaylen Bland led the team with 14 points and David Horst and 11 points off the bench in just 15 minutes of play. Canyons will host L.A. Valley on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. for another conference match up.

12-20-12 Bland Leads Cougars To Victory Over El Camino

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Sophomore Jaylen Bland scored 30 points, including 22 second half points, and helped lead the Cougars past the Warriors of El Camino College, 79-66, on Thursday afternoon in the Cougar Cage. In front of a rawkus crowd, Canyons shot 11-of-17 freethrows in the last three minutes to survive a late El Camino surge.
COC closed out the first half behind Bland's 18 points, seven of which came from beyond the arc, and a 15-4 run that gave the home team a 44-31 halftime lead. COC held off the Warriors until late in the second half as El Camino came as close as six points. Tyler Barber added 13 points and David Horst had 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Canyons will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 27 for a 7 p.m. against Palomar College in the first round of the Cougar Holiday Classic.

Canyons went 6-of-10 from the 3-point line and was 18-of-32 from the field in the second half of the game, helping increase the Cougars lead by as many as 19 points. David Horst had 14 points off the bench and Tyler Barber also contributed 14 points. Bland was named all-tournament for his contributions at the tournament.

to defeat Irvine Valley College 59-55 in the second round of the Saddleback Tournament. Jaylen Bland turned in a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Tyler Barber led all scorers with 14 points. After falling behind by two points at the break, Canyons took control of the second half and outscored Irvine 14-8 in the paint. The Lasers would make one final push with less than a minute left in regulation, but poor free throw shooting by Irvine Valley held them off.

The COC men's basketball team squandered a nine point lead in the second half and fell to Long Beach City College 68-64 in the opening round of the Saddleback Tournament. Canyons tied up the game, 64-64, at the 3:42 mark of the second half on a 3-pointer from Jaylen Bland. On the following possession, Long Beach made it a one-possession game on a quick layup, but the Cougars missed four field goals and had a costly turnover as time expired. Bland notched 24 points and was the only COC basketball player in double figures.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons men's basketball team opened its season on Friday at the two-day Clash at Canyons Tournament and won the four-team tournament. COC opened the tournament with an 82-51 victory over Santa Barbara City College, in a game that COC never trailed. The Cougars opened a the match up with a 13-0 run before Santa Barbara was able to put up its first points at the 14:23 mark of the second half. Thirty seconds later, the Vaqueros scored again to cut it to 14, but that would be as close as they would get. Jaylen Brand led three COC players in double figures with 17 points and two blocks in just 16 minutes of play. Ron Harris added 13 points on a 5-for-7 shooting night and Temjae Singleton chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. In the second game, Canyons saw a 21-point performance from Brand, while three other starters posted double-digit points, and the Cougars beat the Huskies 69-60. Canyons held the lead until the 2:14 mark of the first quarter, when they allowed East Los Angeles to tie the game up at 30-30, but a 4-0 run to end the half, gave COC the four-point advantage going into the locker room. The Huskies would make a final surge with a minute left in the game as they trailed the Cougars 61-60, but COC shot 6-of-6 from the free throw line and won the game. Tyler Barber had 16 points and Singleton had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. COC will travel to Irvine Valley on Thursday, Nov. 15 for the San Juan Hills Classic.
