5-5-08 Cougars Headed To The State Championships
SAN JACINTO, Calif. –
The College of the Canyons men’s golf team finished in a tie for second place at the SoCal Championships at the Country Club at Soboba Springs on Monday afternoon. Canyons finished with a 21-over-par 741 on the par-72 1,401-yard course and was one of four teams to advance to the State Championships at the SCGA Golf Course on Monday, May 12. Moorpark, who won the SoCal Championship with a 15-over par score, Cypress College (+21) and Saddleback College (+21) rounded out the final three teams qualify for the state tournament. Davis Kirkland led the team after the first round with a tournament-low 5-under-par 67. Kirkland’s bogey-free first-round score included five birdies. The second proved to be different for Kirkland as he only had three birdies and finished with a 75 for a 2-under 142 for the tournament. He finished in a tie for fourth place as an individual. Sophomore Casey Piper carded a 75 and 70 for a 1-over-par 145 and a tie for 12th-place finish. Justin Renaux recorded a 149, Andrew Ok a 150 and Ryan Perez had a 155. COC heads to State Championships on Monday, May 12 at the SCGA Golf Course at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif.

4-28-08 Cougars Lose Grip On First Place
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. –
The College of the Canyons men’s golf team came in third on Monday afternoon after turning in a 374, falling four strokes out of first-place Ventura (370) and two strokes behind second-place Bakersfield (372), at the Rio Bravo Country Club. With the third-place finish, the Cougars fell to second place in the team match standings with a 48-15 record. Ventura College (50-13) now holds sole possession of the top spot in the Western State Conference after being in a two-way tie with COC last week. Sophomore Casey Piper was one of five golfers to finish at even par with a 72. Andrew Ok turned in a 73, while Davis Kirkland and Ryan Perez had 76s. Justin Renaux rounded out the Cougar scoring with a 76. COC will head back to the golf course on Thursday for the two-day COD Invitational on Thursday, April 17, before the WSC Championships on Monday, April 28.

4-7-08 Cougars Come In Fourth, Tied For First In Western State Conference Match Play
SOMIS, Calif.
– College of the Canyons men’s golf carded a 404 to finish in fourth place on Monday afternoon at the Saticoy Country Club. The Cougars, who have held on to first place since the beginning of the season are now tied for first with Ventura College as both teams hold a 43-13 match record. COC had a tough day with the best score coming from Davis Kirkland who tallied a 76 on the afternoon. Kirkland was one of two Canyons’ athletes with a score in the 70s – Casey Piper had a 79. Ryan Perez and Justin Renaux had 82s and Andrew Ok turned in an 85. COC will play again on Monday, April 14 at the Rio Bravo Country Club, in the last regular season Western State Conference match of the season.

3-31-08 Cougars Come In Fifth At Eighth WSC Tournament, Still Hold On To First Place
SAN JACINTO, Calif.
– The College of the Canyons men’s golf team finished in fifth place on the par-72 Country Club at Soboba Springs, turning in a 390, but still holds the best match record and remains in first place in the Western State Conference. Ventura (36-13) won the tournament with a 377 and trail COC (39-10) in the conference standings. Casey Piper, who leads Southern California 74.5 average before Monday’s round, and Justin Renaux recorded 77s. Davis Kirkland had a 78, while Andrew Ok and Ryan Perez carded 79s. The Cougars return to action on Monday, April 7 as they head to the Saticoy Country Club in Ventura.   

03-26-08 Cougars Go Undefeated In Seventh WSC Match
SANTA MARIA, Calif.
– College of the Canyons men’s golf team finished the par-72 Santa Maria Country Club with a score of  389 on Wednesday afternoon, leading second-place Ventura by seven strokes. Canyons (36-6), who has not topped the field since a win on Feb. 18, increase their lead over second-place Ventura College (29-13) and Santa Barbara (29-13). Sophomore Casey Piper and freshman Abraham Lee turned in 77s, Andrew Ok and Justin Renaux carded 78s on the afternoon, and Davis Kirkland rounded out the scoring with a 7 over-par-79. The Cougars return to action on Monday, March 31 for a Western State Conference match at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto.

3-17-08 Bakersfield Edges Cougars At Canyons Invitational
OXNARD, Calif.
– College of the Canyons men’s golf team fell one stroke short of Western State Conference member Bakersfield at the Canyons Invitational at the River Ridge Golf Course on Monday morning. COC carded a team score of 370, while Bakersfield edged the Cougars with a 369. Sophomore Casey Piper led finishing 1-under on the par-72 course. Lucas Allensworth finished at even-par, Andrew Ok had a 75, and Justin Renaux and Davis Kirkland turned in 76s. The Cougars return to action on Monday, March 24 for a WSC match at Santa Barbara.

2-25-08 Canyons Loses Sole Control Of First Place After Finishing In Fifth
SOLVANG, Calif. -
College of the Canyons men's golfer Davis Kirkland earned co-medalist honors at the third Western State Conference tournament of the season after carding a 69 at The Ranch at Alisal, but as a team, the Cougars came in fifth place. COC turned in a 379 and it marks the first time this season that the team has not won a conference tournament. They drop to 17-4. Andrew Ok tallied a 73, Casey Piper a 77, while Ryan Perez and Lucas Allensworth shot 80s for the round. Rounding out COC was Justin Renixue with an 81. COC will see its next action on Monday, March 3 as they travel to Oakmont Country Club for its fourth WSC tourney.

2-18-08 College of the Canyons Remains Undefeated In WSC
GLENDORA, Calif. -
The Cougars took a one stroke lead over second-place Bakersfield on Monday afternoon at the Glendora Country Club, to remain undefeated in Western State Conference play at 14-0. The Cougars shot a 379, while Bakersfield carded a 380 and third-place Ventura scored a 391. COC was led by individual medalist Ryan Perez who shot an even 72. Andrew Ok recorded a 74, Casey Piper turned in a 72 and Davis Kirland, Justin Renixue and Abe Lee had 79s. The Cougars return to action on Monday, Feb. 25 in the third WSC tournament at Alisal in Solvang, Calif.

2-11-08 Cougars Roll Past Competition In First Conference Tournament
VALENCIA, Calif.
– The College of the Canyons men’s golf team recorded its first win of the season as they edged Ventura College by eight strokes at the first Western State Conference tournament on Monday afternoon, after carding a school best 6-over-par 366 at the par-72, 7,076-yard Valencia Country Club. COC was led by sophomore Casey Piper, who turned in a 68 and was only one of two golfers under par for the tournament. The Cougars team score was the best score that any COC squad has recorded on the Valencia course.  Abraham Lee and Justin Renixue shot 74s, while Andrew Ok and Davis Kirkland tallied 75s. The Cougars return to action on Monday, Feb. 18 as they head to the Glendora Country Club for WSC No. 2.
