4-26-10 Cougars Earn Sixth Place In Conference Meet

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons men's and women's swim team finished in sixth place at the Western State Conference Championship and also broke three school records along the way. The 200-yard medley relay team of Courtney Smith, Leanna Walter, Taylor Bellina and Kaley Meister broke the school record once again with a time of 1:59.72, which was good for fourth place. On the men's side, the 400-yard medley relay turned in a time of 3:49.77 and John Luppens notched a 17:31.33 in the 1650-yard freestyle to break two more school records.

GLENDORA, Calif. -
The men's and women's swim team finished in fourth and third respectively on Friday afternoon at the Citrus' quad meet. Taylor Bellina was the only Cougar to win a race. She turned in a 28.14 in the women's 50-yard butterfly to beat the second-place finisher by a second. Leanna Walter was second in the 50-yard breastroke with a tiem of 33.32, rounding out the women's top finishers. For the men, Patrick Reed came in fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, notching a time of 1:00.83 and Brett Shields came in directly behind Reed for fifth place with a time of 1:04.37. COC will now get ready to host the Western State Conference Championships on April 22-24 at the Canyons Aquatics Center.

2-24-10 Men's Swim and Dive Team Stacked With Talent

SANTA CLARITA, Calif.
While the College of the Canyons swim and dive program was full of quality swimmers during the 2009 season, the lack of quantity put them behind its competition. Both the men’s and the women’s teams finished in seventh place in the Western State Conference and struggled because of their small size in comparison to their competitors. Head coach Jeff Conwell is positive that this year will be different.

2-19-10 COC Places Third In Quad Meet

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
College of the Canyons men's swimmer Billy Kutylo led the team with a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststoke on Friday afternoon to lead the Cougars to third place in a quad meet against Cuesta, Citrus and Valley. Kutylo turned in a time of 1:05.28 in the 100-yard breaststroke for first place and was the only Cougar to take a top finish. Jimmy Karren also had a productive day, taking second in the 100-yard butterfly (57.95) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.33). The Cougars will travel to Bakersfield on March 6 for a 10 a.m. meet.
