3-14-09 Men Come In First Place At Bakersfield College Invitational

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
College of the Canyons men's track and field team took home the top spot at the Bakersfield College Invitational. COC had a balanced performance from the running and field events. In the shot put, COC went 1-2-3 with Glenn Rivera hurling the shot put 46-2. Caleb Kellog cleared 13-6 in the pole vault for the top performance of the meet and Michael Crutcher was first to cross the finish line in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.13. The women turned in a fourth place performance at the same meet. Brittany Uhl finished first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:07.98 and ran the first leg of the first-place 4x400-meter relay. COC will return to action on Friday, September 20 where part of the team will go to the Cal Relays and the other part to the Santa Barbara Relays.

2-27-09 Cougars Remain Undefeated In Conference

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -
COC had a balanced attack on Friday afternoon, earning first-place finishes in the five running events and three field events for the men's second conference meet where the team finished in first place. The Cougars tallied 84 points in the second WSC meet of the year, followed by Bakersfield (55), Santa Monica (27) and L.A. Valley (18). COC dominated the sprinting events, winning both relays. Joe Spell took first place in the 100-meter dash in 11.08 and Lance Mosley took first in the 200-meter after posting a time of 21.99. Michael Crutcher posted 57.32 in the 400-meter hurdles, rounding out the track events. On the field , Matt Zemba leaped 40-2 to top the field, Glen Rivera threw 45-7 1/4 in the shot put and Juan Flores hurled the discus 130-4 for the final first-place finishes. The women completed their second meet just nine points out of first place for second place. Brittany Uhl was a double winner in the high jump (4-10) and the triple jump (31-8). Caitlyn Ramirez was the first runner to cross the line in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:00.63 and Corey Honeycutt led the field in the 1,500-meter run after posting a time of 5:10.21. COC also won the 4x400-meter relay. COC returns to action on Friday, March 6 as they travel to its third conference meet at Cuesta College.

2-13-09 COC Wins 10 Individual Events In Home And Season Opener

SANTA CLARITA, Calif
. – The College of the Canyons men’s and women’s track and field team captured 10 event titles on Thursday afternoon at the Cougars home and conference opener. The men’s team dominated the team competition with seven first-place finishes including a sweep of the individual sprinting events after collecting 76.5 points. The women’s team came in second place with 45 points, behind Glendale College who took home the win with 116 points. The men’s team was led by freshman Lance Mosley who won titles in the 100-meter dash (11.08), the 200-meter (22.41) and the long jump (42-10 ¾). Matt Zemba came in first in the 400-meter with a time of 51.13 and Michael Crutcher turned in a 57.07 performance in the 400-meter hurdles. The men’s team also won the 4x400-meter relay and earned a first place in the discus behind Juan Flores 127-11 ½ throw. On the women’s side, the team brought in two first places in the field events: Kamrin Megarit in the pole vault (8-0) and Brittany Uhl in the long jump (15-2 ¾). Caitlyn Ramirez turned in the fastest time in the 400m (1:00.78). COC will head to the two-day Cerritos Invitational on Friday, Feb. 20.
