5-18-13 White Wins State Title In State Championship

SAN MATEO, Calif. -
College of the Canyons freshman jumper Tim White completed his first season as a Cougar with a state championship on Saturday afternoon in the triple jump. White, posted a leap of 51 feet, 3 1/2 inches to win an individual state title in the triple jump, bringing home the first jumping honor in the program’s history.

LANCASTER, Calif.
- The College of the Canyons track and field team brought home an individual championship and a new school record at this weekend’s Southern California prelims at Antelope Valley College on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Tim White turned in a distance of 51 feet, 2 3/4 inches for a Southern California Championship in the triple jump. His jump was a little less than a foot shorter than his best mark that he earned at the Western State Conference Championships two weekends ago. The Hart High School alumnus will compete in the state championship in event, which he will be favored to win based on his marks this season. Joining White there will be COC freshman Anthony Fowler, who broke the school record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.49 seconds, while coming in fourth place. Fowler improved his Southern California prelims time by 2 1/2 seconds and ran the 21st fastest time among community college runners in the nation this year and eighth best time in the state of California. The CCCAA Track and Field State Championship Meet takes place from May 17-18 at San Mateo College.

5-4-13 Cougars Qualify Four To Southern California Finals

LANCASTER, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons track and field team competed in the Southern California Prelims at Antelope Valley College on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars had four athletes, one woman and three men, qualify for the Southern California Finals next Saturday in Lancaster again. Freshman Tim White did not disappoint as he came in first place in the triple jump, after turning in a distance of 50 feet, 9 ¼ inches, and beating the second-place finisher by more than 2 ½ feet. Freshman javelin thrower Cody Moore earned a personal-best mark of 162 feet, 3 inches, good for 10th place. Freshman Anthony Fowler also qualified for the 400-meters final race with a time of 49.01 seconds. On the women’s side, sophomore Jillian Hurley cleared 10 feet, 4¾ inches in the pole vault, for a new personal-best mark and school record. Canyons’ four athlete will travel back to Antelope Valley College on Saturday, May 11 for the Southern California Finals where the top four finishers in the 400-meter run will advance and the top six in the field events will move on to the state championship meet on May 17-18 at San Mateo College.

MOORPARK, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons track and field team completed the Western State Conference Finals on Friday afternoon with a sixth-place finish for the women and a 10th-place finish for the men’s team. Freshman jumper Tim White continued to improve on his impressive season as he won a conference championship in the triple jump with a leap of 52 feet, marking a personal-best jump. With the distance, White moves into second place among community college triple jumpers in the nation. In other track and field action, freshman distance runner Chase Wheeler ran a 4 minute, 3.82 second 1,500 for a personal best and seventh place in the race. On the women’s side, Jessica Gill came in fourth place in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.86 seconds and Nouneh Assadourian turned in a fifth-place performance in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 4 3/4 inches. Canyons, which qualified to compete in 12 events, will travel to Antelope Valley College for the Southern California Prelims on Saturday.

WALNUT, Calif. -
Freshman Tim White continued to blow away his competition as he won the triple jump at the Mount San Antonio Relays on Saturday. White leaped 49 feet, 10 1/2 inches to beat out the second-place finisher, Michael Lewis from San Joaquin Delta College, by more than two feet, and never posted a jump lower than anyone in the 13-man field. White, who was 1/2 inch short of his season-best jump, is ranked second in the nation among community college triple jumpers. He also came in third place in the high jump after clearing 6 feet, 6 inches. COC saw three new season-best marks posted by members of the squad. Freshman sprinter Andrew Sanchez ran the 200-meter dash in 22.46 seconds to shave .10 seconds off his fastest time of the year. Freshman Jessica Gill ran 1 minute, .82 second in the 400-meter dash to rank 11th in the Western State Conference in the event. Sophomore Nouneh Assadouria turned in a season-best mark in the triple jump, with a leap of 33 feet, 4 3/4 inches. Assadouria finished in seventh place at the conference championships in 2012 with a jump of 34 feet, 3 1/2 inches. White and the rest of the track and field team will participate in the WSC Prelims on Friday at Ventura College.

3-16-13 Cougars Fare Well At Bakersfield Invitational

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons track and field team traveled to Bakersfield College Friday and Saturday to compete in the Bakersfield College Invitational. The team used this meet as an opportunity to tune up their skills to prepare for the second half of the season and try their hand at events they wouldn’t normally participate in. The women’s track team placed in several events including Nouneh Assadouria who took second place in the triple jump event ending with a jump of 10.13 meters. Ariel Williams also took home a second place win for the Cougars in the javelin event where she threw 23.16 meters. Also for the women’s team, Jessica Gill finished in fifth place with a time of 2:33.45 in the 800-meter race. The men’s team also did well at the invite, Justin Vaughn took first place in the javelin throw with a 47.26-meter throw, and Connor Bellina finished not close behind in second place with a 43.66-meter throw. Cody Moore placed in several events: first place in the triple jump with a 11.98 meter jump, third place in the high jump with a 1.82-meter leap, and third place in the javelin with a 43.61meter throw. The Cougars also placed in many track races. During the 800 meter, Anthony Fowler finished in 1:59.21 earning him second place. Also, the team of Sanchez-Weaver-White-Fowler came in second place during the 4x100 race with a time of 43.07. The next meet for the track team will take place Friday, March 22 at WSC No. 2 in Antelope Valley.

3-1-13 Tim White Sets New School Record In Triple Jump

VENTURA, Calif. -
The COC men's and women's track and field teams participated in the WSC North Meet on Friday afternoon and came in third and fifth place, respectively. On the men's side, Tim White broke a school record in the triple jump, leaping 15.0 meters, and came in first in the high jump and second in the long jump. Anthony Fowler came in first in the 400 (48.34), for the second-best time in the state this season, and second in the 200 with a time of 22.5. The men also won the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:18.11, for the second-best time posted this year in the state. For the women, Jillian Hurley cleared 3.05 meters in the pole vault, good for first place, while Lauren Ross came in fourth place with a time of 13.38 in the 100-meter dash.
