11-5-10 Men's and Women's Cross Teams Headed To State Championship

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons men's and women's cross country teams finished in 16th and 17th place, respectively, to qualify for the state championship race in two weeks in Fresno. This is the first season since 2007 that both teams have made it to the biggest race of the season. Sophomore Ryland del Valle turned in a 21:52 over the 4-mile course, good for 34th place. Close behind del Valle was Chris Low who crossed the finish line in a time of 22:47. Natalie Malone ran a 21:35 to top the women's finishers. Behind her, Imuri Pacheco came in ten seconds later at 21:45. The Cougars will run in the state championship on Nov. 20 in Fresno.

10-15-10 Del Valle Finishes in Top-10
WALNUT, Calif. -
Men's cross country runner Ryland del Valle came in sixth place at the Mt. SAC Invite with a time of 21:10 to help the Cougars to a 13th-place finish, while the women came in seventh place. Del Valle was the only Cougar on both the men's and women's team to complete the race in the top-10 in the 203-man race. For the women, Natalie Malone ran a 20:21 for 41st place and Shaina Katz came in 43rd in a time of 20:23. COC will travel to the Western State Conference Race on Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Crescenta Valley for a 3 p.m. run.

10-9-10 Cougars Look Strong in Southern California Preview
SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
In a preview of the course used for the Southern California Championships on Nov. 6, the College of the Canyons women's cross country team came in 15th place and the men in 23rd. The top 14 teams will advance to the State Championship from the Nov. 6 race, while this week's race was a good indicator of what to expect from the teams the next time they visit the course. The women were led by Natalie Malone who came in 77th place in a time of 21:28. For the men, the team was led by Ryland del Valle who turned in a 21:44 on the four-mile course and came in 30th. COC will travel to Walnut on Friday, Oct. 15, for the annual Mt. SAC Invite.

10-1-10 Women's Cross Team Come Out On Top At Bakersfield Invite

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons women's cross country team won its first race of the year at the Bakersfield Invite on Friday afternoon. Natalie Malone and Danielle Schaefer came in 2-3 to lead the team to its first victory. The men's team finished in second place, but saw Ryland del Valle win the race in a time of 21:51 over the 4-mile course. COC will race in the SoCal Preview in San Diego on Saturday, Oct. 9.

9-24-10 Cougars Finish In Top Five At First Conference Test

OXNARD, Calif. -
In the Cougars first conference test of the season the women finished in fourth place and the men completed the race in 5th place. Shaina Katz and Natalie Malone led the women in 20th and 21st place respectively. Katz finished the race in 20:29 and Malone came in two seconds later with a time of 20:31. The men saw Ryland del Valle turn in a 20:53 and came in seventh place.

9-11-10 COC Finishes In Top Half Of Fresno Invite

FRESNO, Calif. -
College of the Canyons cross country men's and women's teams turned in a 12th and 15th-place finish respectively at the Fresno Invite on Saturday. The women's team completed the race in 12th place among the 25 teams that competed. Natalie Malone was the top runner for COC and came in 70th place in 21:36. The 15th-place men's team were led by Chris Low. Low turned in a 22:02, good for 31st place. COC will travel to the Orange Coast Classic on Friday, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m.

9-3-10 Cougars Do Well In First Meet of The Season

VENTURA, Calif. -
The College of the Canyons men's and women' cross country teams finished in sixth and fourth place respectively at Friday's Ventura Invite, the first run of the season. The women, who finished in fourth out of the 16 teams that competed in the race. COC has a handful of runners that came in close together, including Shaina Katz who finished the 3.1-mile race in 23:54 and was the first COC runner to cross the finish line. Natalie Malone came in right after her in 27th place in 24:04 and Danielle Schaefer (24:28) was in 31st place and Christie Edwards (24:30) who completed the race in 32nd place. The men also finished in the top half of the 15 teams, in sixth place. They were led by two runners who finished in the top-20 for the 4-mile race. Ryland de Valle was the 11th-place finisher in 23:11 and Chris low came in 18th in 23:33. COC will travel to the Fresno Invite on Friday, Sept. 10.
