The cross country teams saw a lot of triumphs during 2007 in the men’s and women’s program. The men’s team won its first WSC championship in the history of the program after dominating its competition during the regular season. Sophomore Alfredo Coronado was the second runner to cross the finish line at the conference contest, and posted another second-place finish at the Southern California Championships, leading the team to second place overall. At the state meet, COC took fifth place, following the leadership of WSC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year Coronado, who had a second-place finish. The women surprised their conference foes placing third and were guided by season leader Liliana Beltran who came in 14th place with a time of 21:40. The team went on to finish in ninth at the Southern California Championships and along with the men, earning a trip to the State Championships where they placed 14th. COC was honored with 12 All-Conference nods, and coach Lindie Kane was named WSC Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.

College of the Canyons had another exciting season with a second-place finish for the men and a fifth-place finish for the women in the Western State Conference. Sophomore Stephen Kent was the top finisher for both teams, recording a 21:47 time in the 4-mile run. He finished fifth overall. Six individuals were earned spots in the state meet and nine athletes were all-conference. |
