5-8-08 Three Softball Players Pick Up Post-Season Accolades

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - College of the Canyons softball players Lauren Rose, Jeralyn Gates and Sarah Hasenfus were named All-Western State Conference, as announced by the conference office Monday. Rose was named first-team, while the other ladies were honorable mentions.

GLENDORA, Calif. – College of the Canyons softball team fell to Citrus College twice, 10-4 and 12-1, in a double-header on Tuesday afternoon, ending the Cougars 2008 campaign. Sara Campos pitched the first game for the Cougars, giving up nine hits and 10 runs (6 earned), while striking out two and walking six batters. Jeralyn Gates was 2-of-3 and Campos went 1-of-3 with 2 RBIs. In the second game, Lauren Rose took over the hurling responsibilities. She faced 39 batters and walked seven and gave up 12 runs (5 earned). Only three Cougars recorded hits in the game (Rose, Sarah Hasenfus and Crystal Urquidez. Right fielder Courtney Ferrell tallied the only RBI of the day. The Cougars finish the season 17-32, 10-15 in the WSC-Blue, for a sixth-place finish.
4-10-08 Cougars Don’t Have Enough To Get By Glendale

GLENDALE, Calif. – College of the Canyons fell one run short of defeating Glendale College on Thursday afternoon, 8-6, at Glendale College. The Cougars came close in the seventh and final inning, bringing the team within one after a two-run, but it wasn’t enough to get by the Vaqueros. Sara Campos pitched a complete game, giving up six hits, eight runs (five earned) and struck out one. Glendale scored its runs in clumps, with four in the second and another four in the sixth, which proved to be too much for COC. Lauren Rose was 1-of-4 with 2 RBIs and a triple. Pitcher Campos also recorded a homerun in the contest. COC heads to Antelope Valley College on Saturday, April 12 to take on Cypress and Antelope Valley College in non-conference action.
3-18-08 Softball Falls Short Against Glendale
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - In the first of two games in a double-header against Glendale College, the College of the Canyons Cougars gave up four runs in the fourth inning to lose to the Vaqueros, 5-3. Sophomorse Jeralyn Gate and Jacklyn Ruacho were 2-of-4 with two singles each in the game. Gates scored the Cougars first run in the first inning after hitting her first single of the day. She stole third a few batters later and then reached home on a error. The Cougars scored two more runs from Glendale miscues in the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough to get by Glendale who scored one more in the sixth, to go up 5-3. Sara Campos pitched a complete game. She struck out six, walked four and gave up six hits in 31 at bats.
3-4-08 Two Cougars Record Triples, COC Wins Over Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. – College of the Canyons softball team received a triple from Whitney Stanley and Jeralyn Gates on Tuesday afternoon to help lead the Cougars past Ventura College, 13-2. Canyons scored in every inning, in one of the best batting days for COC, recording 14 hits and 11 RBIs as a team. Pitcher Sara Campos recorded the win in the five-inning game. She gave only gave up two hits and two runs (one earned) in 20 at bats. Gates was 4-of-3 on the afternoon with three hits and two RBIs. Stanley went 4-of-2 with a triple and a double and three RBIs. The Cougars head to Valley on Thursday, March 6 for the Cougars first Western State-Blue contest of the year.
2-16-08 Cougars Turn In Season High 18 Runs In Third Conference Win

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - College of the Canyons tallied a season high 18 runs on Tuesday afternoon as the Cougars won their third conference game of the season, 18-1, against Allan Hancock. Pitcher Lauren Rose threw a no hitter with one unearned run in the win, moving her record to 2-3 on the year. Sara Campos and Whitney Stanley both hit homeruns for the squad, while going 2-of-4 for the game. Campos, Jeralyn Gates and Jackie Ruiz had four RBIs each to help bring in the Cougars 18 runs. The Cougars' return to the field on Thursday, Feb. 28 to host Moorpark at 2:30 p.m.
2-14-08 COC Records First Win Of The Season

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. - The College of the Canyons softball team scored three runs at the top of the seventh and final inning of the non-conference match-up with Pierce College, to break a 5-all score and bring home the Cougars first win of the season, 8-5. COC out hit Pierce, 12-6, and pitcher Sara Campos got her first victory of the year. Campos, who is now 1-7, gave up six hits, walked three and struck out five in 36 at bats. Lauren Rose had two RBIs in the game, while Jackie Ruiz tallied three hits during four at bats. Sarah Hasenfus hit a homerun, the first for any Cougar this year, to go along with her three putouts. The Cougars return to action Tuesday, Feb. 19 as they host Oxnard at 2:30 p.m.
2-12-08 Cougars Give Up Six Runs In the Sixth In Loss

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Cougars dropped their ninth game as they saw Cuesta score nine runs in the sixth inning. Canyons could only record three hits in the game, coupled with three errors. Jeralyn Gates, Lauren Rose and Sarah Hasenfus recorded hits on the day and Gates recorded a stolen base. Pitcher Rose pitched six innings for COC and gave up nine hits, nine runs and walked four players during 33 at bats. COC hits the road on Thursday, Feb. 14 to take on Pierce at 2:30 p.m.
2-1-08 Canyons Score First Runs Of The Season, But Fall Short Against Pasadena

PASADENA, Calif. - The Cougar softball team dropped a game to Pasadena College, 10-8, scoring COC’s first runs of the 2008 season on Friday afternoon. Canyons was only behind by one run, 4-3, as they scored three in the third inning. COC would respond again in the fifth with four more runs, but still trailed Pasadena, 10-7. The Cougars scored a final run in the seventh, but it was not enough to overcome Pasadena. Jeralyn Gates led the Cougars with two runs, one hit and a RBI. Sarah Hasenfus stole two bases in the loss and Lauren Rose was the only other teammate with two runs in the game. Pitcher Sara Campos gave up nine hits, walked five players and had three strikeouts in 35 at bats. COC drops to 0-4. The Cougars return to action on Wednesday for a game at home versus Mt. SAC at 2:30 p.m.
1-30-08 Cougars Drop Home Opener To Long Beach City College

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - COC gave up six runs in the fifth and final inning of the Cougars season and home opener against Long Beach City to lose 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Canyons could only produce two hits the whole game, which both came from freshman Lauren Rose, who hit two singles. Rose also added the Cougars only stolen base of the day to her resume. Long Beach scored early in the first inning and again in the fourth, but six runs in the fifth and final inning was the Cougars demise. Pitcher Sarah Campos gave up seven hits in the game, walked three and struckout two people in 29 at bats for the first-time pitcher. COC returns to action on Thursday to take on Mt. SAC in Walnut at 2:30 p.m.
