4-23-12 Cougars End Season With Best Record In The State
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons softball team ended its regular season on Monday afternoon with a 9-6 victory over visiting El Camino College. The third-ranked Cougars complete the season with the most wins in the state and now await playoff seedings later this week. The Cougars fell behind early to the Warriors 2-1 after 1.5 innings, but used runs scored in the second to tie the game at 2-2. It was all COC from there as Jenny Wunderlich and Adriana Correa turned in homeruns for COC. Starting pitcher Alicia Paiz went 6.2 innings in the circle and gave up four earned runs and seven hits in her outing. Kimmie Lockhart notched the save, facing one batter in the seventh. Catcher Amy Droege was 2-of-3 on the day with three RBIs, alsong with Correa who was 2-of-3 with two RBIs.
4-21-12 Cougars Extend Winning Streak To 14
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -The College of the Canyons softball team notched 16 hits and scored 17 runs, as they mercy ruled East LA, 17-1, on Friday afternoon. Pitcher Kimmie Lockhart threw five innings and went 3-of-3 with four RBIs. Lockhart improved to 21-1 and gave up one earned run and struck out nine batters. Outfielder Andrea Blackpool and infielder Nike Haslock combined for three hits and six RBIs. The Cougars will host El Camino Monday, April 23 at 2 p.m.

COC strung together four runs off seven hits to hold off second-place Citrus. Lockhart improved to 18-1 and gave up one earned run and struckout five batters. First baseman Shay Romero was 2-of-3 on the afternoon and had one RBI. The Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, April 17 for a double header against Valley at 1 p.m.
4-6-12 COC Uses Big Fifth Inning To Beat Bakersfield

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons softball team turned in three runs in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 standstill that pushed the Cougars past visiting Bakersfield 4-1. In what turned out to be a pitchers duel, catcher Amy Droege opened up the COC hitting in the fifth inning with a RBI single that drove in the Cougar's second run of the day. Following Droege's hit, Adriana Correa stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run homer over the left field fence that increased Canyons lead. Pitcher Kimmie Lockhart held off the Renegades the rest of the way and finished the game only giving up four hits. She improves to 16-1 on the season. The Cougars will host Santa Monica on Tuesday, April 10 in a double header starting at 1 p.m.

The College of the Canyons softball team swept visiting Glendale College on Tuesday afternoon to take over first place in the conference. In game one, catcher Amy Droege went 2-of-3 with one RBI and the Cougars defeated Glendale 6-2. Glendale struggled defensively collecting three errors and allowing COC to score on the team's miscues. Pitcher Kimmie Lockhart picked up her 14th win of the season after throwing seven innings and giving up five hits and two runs, while striking out six. In the second game, the Cougars came from behind and erased a 7-3 deficit with a four-run fifth inning to defeat Glendale 8-7. Nikki Haslock was 3-of-3 on the day with a RBI and Shay Romero went 2-of-3 on the day. After starting pitcher Alicia Paiz went five innings and gave up seven runs, Lockhart was brought in to throw the final two innings of the game. Lockhart held the Vaqueros scoreless and didn't give up any hits for her 15th win. The Cougars will host Bakersfield on Thursday, April 5 at 2:30 p.m.

COC opened the game with five runs in the first inning and then four in the third inning to help the Cougs mercy rule the game at five innings. Ruby Herrera was 3-of-4 on the afternoon with a double and Adriana Correra was 2-of-3 with five RBIs and two homeruns. Kimmie Lockhart earned her ninth victory of the season and gave up four hits and four runs. She struck out eight. COC will return to action on Tuesday, March 27 for a double header against Mission. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 1 p.m.

GLENDORA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons softball team dropped their second game of the season in the past week, when they split games with Citrus College. In the first game, both Citrus starting pitcher Devin Dean and College of the Canyons' Kimmie Lockhart took no-hitters into the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, Canyons scored twice on two hits, while the Owls also rounded up two hits, but just came up with a solo score. That would be the deciding factor, as the Owls ultimately fell 2-1 in the first contest of the day. Dean (10-6) pitched all seven innings, giving up just those two hits and two runs, walking three and striking out six. Lockhart meanwhile basically matched her giving up two hits with one run, three walks and seven K's. In the second game, Canyons would score first again getting a solo home run in the top of the third inning. The Owls answered in the bottom of the inning with a run thanks to a Cougar error, and then got a two run one out home run to left field off the bat of Bre Lockett to make it 3-1. That's all the wiggle room, starting pitcher Carissa Bender needed as she limited the Cougars to just one hit in the final two innings.

Paiz improved to 12-0 on the season, throwing a complete game while striking out seven. The Cougars led 2-0 after four innings, but scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to break the game open. Four Cougars had two hits each and infielder Nikki Haslock and pitcher Kimmie Lockhart combined for five RBIs. COC will travel to Citrus for a double header on Tuesday, March 20, as they take on Citrus at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The College of the Canyons softball team's 17-game win streak came to an end on Tuesday afternoon, when the Cougs split two games with Bakersfield College.
In the first game, the Cougars gave up seven runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the bottom of the fifth inning to lost 11-3 in five innings. Pitcher Kimmie Lockhart gave up 11 hits for 11 runs and walked four batters in five innings of work, for her first loss of the season. She drops to 7-1 on the year. Despite having trouble in the circle, Lockhart turned in the Cougars best hitting performance, going 1-of-2 with three RBIs. In game two, Canyons held off a surging Bakesfield, to win 11-6 over the Renegades in seven innings. COC gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but was able to hold the Renegades back. Alicia Paiz earned her 12th win of the season while giving up eight hits and five earned runs. Adriana Correa was 2-of-4 with four RBIs. COC will travel to Glendora on Tuesday, March 20 for a double header at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

GLENDALE, Calif. - The No. 1-ranked College of the Canyons softball team defeated Glendale College 7-6 in the team's conference opener on Thursday afternoon. Alicia Paiz threw a complete game for the Cougars and fanned four Vaqueros, while giving up 10 hits, in her ninth win.
COC only posted four hits in the game to Glendale's 11, including two from Nikki Haslock. The Cougars allowed Glendale to get back into the game after leading 6-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, when they gave up three runs to the Vaqueros that tied up the game at 6-6. Canyons turned in the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning to win the Cougar's conference opener. COC will travel to Cerritos College tomorrow for a double header.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The College of the Canyons softball team swept Santiago Canyon in its season and home opening doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Ray Whitten Field. The Cougars won game one, 10-5 and then 4-3, in game two. COC opened its season with a 10-5 marathon game over the Hawks. Sophomore catcher Amy Droege provided the catalyst for COC when she hit a grandslam in the bottom of the third to give the Cougs a 4-3 lead. The hits would continue with three more in the inning and then two in the fourth and one in the sixth. Pitcher Kimmie Lockhart earned her first win of the season, pitching all seven innings, and givng up three hits and five runs. She struck out eight in the outing. In the second game, COC held off a surging Hawk team for a 4-3 victory. Adriana Correa notched a homerun in the game and Kimmie Lockhard turned in a triple. COC will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 7 to take on Riverside.
