SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons softball team finished off the regular season last Monday with a 9-6 victory over El Camino in a non-conference match up, to complete the season with a state-best 37 victories.
The Cougars won the program's ninth conference title on the way to a 16-2 Western State Conference, Blue Division, title.
Canyons went on 17-game winning streak to start the 2012 season, but dropped two conference games, before rattling off 17 more victories and a tie.
Sophomore shortstop Ruby Herrera played a large part in the Cougar's success as she led the team with a .496 batting average. Freshman catcher Adriana Correra broke a school record with her 17 homeruns and is second in the state in homers.
COC now awaits playoff seedings on Saturday, April 28. The first round will begin on Saturday, May 5 in a best-of-three series that will conclude on Sunday, May 6.
