Southwestern Box Score
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons softball team lost their opening game of the Super Regionals to Southwestern College, 10-7, on Friday afternoon.
The Jaguars scored seven runs in the first inning and had the momentum the rest of the way. The Cougars scored two runs in the first and three runs in the second, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Jaguars lead.
Pitcher Kimmie Lockhart hit a two-run double in the first and catcher Amy Droege posted a two-run double in the second, to close in on the Southwestern lead.
Canyons trailed 7-5 after two innings, but Southwestern hit a three-run homerun in the their half of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 10-5, which would prove to be to much for Canyons to overcome.
Catcher Adriana Correa hit her 20th homerun of the season in the bottom of that inning to cut the lead to 10-7, but the Cougars would never score again.
Droege, Lockhart and Correra combined for four hits and six RBIs.
The Cougars are now in the losers half of the bracket and will play tomorrow afternoon at noon against the loser of the Riverside/Saddleback match up.
