SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The College of the Canyons softball team defeated Saddleback College 9-3 in the second game of the Super Regionals on Saturday afternoon, while facing elimination in the tournament.
The game was scoreless until the top of the third, when catcher Adrianna Correa hit a three-run homer to give COC a 3-0 lead.
The Cougars scored four in the fifth and two in the sixth to increase COC's margin to 7-2.
Shay Romero, Kimmie Lockhart, Jenny Wunderlich and Correa each had RBIs in the fifth and Correa added a two-run double in the sixth.
Pitcher Alicia Paiz was tagged for three earned runs off eight hits during her seven innings of work.
Correa finished the day with a homer, two doubles and six RBIs, while Kimmie Lockhart and Jenny Wunderlich combined for five hits and two RBIs.
COC will now play the loser of the Southwestern/Riverside at 4 p.m. The winner of that game will play the winner of the Southwestern/Riverside game on Sunday at noon for a chance to go to the state championship.
