RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The No. 4 College of the Canyons softball dropped the final two games of the Super Regional tournament to Riverside College on Sunday afternoon, after entering the games as the lone undefeated squad in the four-team, double elimination tournament. In a winner takes all game, College of the Canyons dropped a 11-0 decision to Riverside College, after the Tigers forced the second game of the afternoon, by beating COC 11-1 earlier that day. On the day, COC
allowed seven homeruns on the day and ran out of steam on the third and final day of the super regional tournament.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The No. 5 College of the Canyons softball team defeated No. 12 Saddleback College 13-0 in the third game of the best-of-three series on Sunday afternoon, earning the Cougars a 2-1 first-round series victory and the chance to move on to the Super Regionals. This marks the second consecutive year that COC will making an appearance in the Super Regional round, after hosting one of the two, four-team tournaments in 2012.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – College of the Canyons softball team continued its season on Saturday afternoon as the Cougars were named the No. 5 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association Softball Southern California Regional and will host No. 12 Saddleback College in a best-of-three series on May 4-5.
4-16-13 Cougars’ Nine Run Sixth Inning Leads To Comeback Win Over Citrus

GLENDORA, CA. – An offensive outburst earned the College of the Canyons softball team a 14-12 victory over Citrus College on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars got off to a slow start, as they trailed 9-2 after three innings, but fortunately the Cougars bats came alive in the final four innings. The comeback started when COC was able to post a nine-run sixth inning, thanks to a three-run homer by outfielder Andrea Brackpool and RBI doubles by Karlee Bickford, Kimmie Lockhart and Savannah Gutierrez. This gave COC a 13-9 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, but Citrus scored three runs and cut the deficit to one run going into the final inning. Left fielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon provided the Cougars with a huge insurance run in the top of the seventh, as she hit a solo homer to increase lead to two runs. The Owls had the game-winning run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but the batter popped out and the Cougars won in exciting fashion. With the win, the Cougars clinched a conference title. Colon, Bickford and Gutierrez combined for nine hits and five RBIs. Brackpool went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs. Canyons will travel to L.A. Valley on Thursday, April 18 for 1 and 3 p.m. games.
4-2-13 Cougars' Eight-Run Inning Leads Them Past Fullerton

FULLERTON, CA. - The COC softball team won its fourth game in a row, as they dominated Fullerton 12-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Kimmie Lockhart pitched a complete game shutout, while also driving in two runs as a batter. The Cougars scored eight runs in the first inning, thanks to RBIs from center fielder Savannah Guiterrez and third baseman Alyssa Hernandez. Right fielder Andrea Brackpool and infielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon combined for two hits and four RBIs. COC will travel to Glendale College for a double-header on Thursday, April 4 for 1 and 3 p.m. games.

SANTA CLARITA, CA. - COC softball won its fourth straight game with a 2-1 conference victory over Moorpark College on Saturday afternoon. Pitcher Savannah Gutierrez pitched a complete game, as she gave up no earned runs and struck out seven. Andrea Brackpool hit a two-run double in the fourth inning to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead and the scoreboard didn’t change for the rest of the game. First baseman Kimmie Lockhart and shortstop Nikki Haslock combined for three hits and one run. COC then had their four game winning streak snapped in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday, as they were defeated by Palomar College 14-6. Lockhart gave up ten earned runs over six innings of work and was recorded with the loss. The Cougars were trailing 7-6 heading into the top of the sixth inning, but Palomar scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to break open the game. Five Cougars recorded at least two hits, while Karlee Bickford tallied three hits. Infielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon hit a two-run homer and Haslock had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. The Cougars will host Santa Monica College on Tuesday, March 19 for a 2:30 p.m. game.

The College of the Canyons softball team won both of its games on Sunday at the Bakersfield Tournament. In the first game of the tournament, the Cougars defeated Mt. San Antonio 7-3. COC jumped out to an early lead, as they scored three in the first inning and three in the third inning. Freshman outfielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon went 2-for-3 with a homer and a RBI and freshman third baseman Karlee Bickford had two hits and two RBIs. Sophomore pitcher Savannah Gutierrez pitched five innings and gave up one earned run. In the second game, the Cougars dominated Cypress College 8-1. COC scored five runs in the third inning and two in the fourth and led the rest of the way. Sophomore Kimmie Lockhart went 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs. Freshman Jessica Jones and Gutierrez combined for three hits and two RBIs. The Cougars will host Reedley College for a double-header on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The first game is at noon and second game is at 2 p.m.

The College of the Canyons softball team held off a surging Cerritos College team that put together a run in the fifth inning, to narrowly beat the Falcons 7-5 on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Kimmie Lockhart was the winning pitcher, as she threw a complete game and struck out two. Freshmen outfielder Ashley Sandoval-Colon went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, while sophomore infielder Savannah Gutierrez also had three hits and one RBI. The Cougars will travel to Bakersfield on Sunday, Feb. 24, for a tournament.
