Head Coach John Wissmath
John Wissmath begins his second season at the helm of the College of the Canyons softball program. He joins Canyons after 20-year former head coach Ray Whitten retired after the 2007 season. Wissmath served as head coach at Butte College in Oroville, Calif., for 12 years where he amassed more than 250 wins. During his last six seasons, he led the Roadrunners to six straight post-season appearances. The Bieber, Calif., native was a two-time All-American decathlete at California State University, Chico after two years at Shasta College in northern California. Though he succeeded on the track, his true love is softball, which he played since high school. Wissmath has competed in national competitions as a pitcher in men’s fastpitch leagues across the United States and brings more than 25 years of experience. A graduate of Chico State, Wissmath received his bachelor’s in physical education and is in the process of earning his master’s. He and his wife, Nicole, have two children, Savanna, and son, Easton. |

Assistant Coach Ashley Carey
Ashley Carey begins her first season as an assistant coach for the Cougars...her primary duties include working with the infielders and the offense...she joins the COC program after a accomplished career with the UCLA Bruins softball team...she was a member of the Bruins' national championship team in 2004 as a freshman...she earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors in 2005, 2006 and 2008...was named the Most Inspirational Bruin in 2008...earned ASA All-American in 2004 and 2005...was seventh all-time in career stolen bases...she earned her bachelor's degree in history and political science and his currently working on her master's degree in adult education and training...Carey is married to her husband Colin... |

Assistant Coach Ray Whitten
Assistant coach Ray Whitten enters his second year as an assistant after spending 21 years at the helm of the COC softball program. Under Whitten, the Cougars were Western State Conference Champions in 1993, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 and were ranked as high as fourth in the state. COC competed in the state regional playoffs 16 times. Whitten was named the conference coach of the year six times and was named Southern California Community College Softball Coach of the Year in 1999. |
