The 2009 Co-Champion Western State Conference, Blue Division, College of the Canyons (28-15-1) softball team earned a No. 9 seed in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs, for head coach John Wissmath’s first appearance in the playoffs in only his second year with the program. The Cougars bowed out of the playoffs early with a first-round loss to Saddleback, but gained momentum under Wissmath's leadership. COC earned its eighth conference championship following a very tight race with L.A. Mission College and had six all-conference awards, Pitcher of the Year accolades for freshman Ashley Imperial and Coach of the Year honors for John Wissmath. Imperial also was named to the All-State team and Lauren Rose was honored with All-Southern California accolades.

The softball team won its second consecutive conference championship in 2010, but struggled in the first round of the playoffs against Grossmont College. Postseason awards helped take the sting out of the early exit from the playoffs, though. Leading the team with awards were infielder Ruby Herrera and outfielder Melissa Herndon, who were both named All-American. This marked the first time that COC softball head coach John Wissmath had two All-American honorees on one team. Herndon was also named the Player of the Year for the conference, along with two-time conference Pitcher of the Year Ashley Imperial.

The College of the Canyons softball team struggled to open the 2011 season and entered the conference season with a 5-9 record. After a lack luster non-conference schedule, the Cougars found their stride and rattled off eight victories to end the month of March, but April didn’t produce the wins the team needed to make an appearance in the playoffs. Bryanna De La Torre was named All-Southern California and eight softball players were named all-conference.
