Friends of CalWORKs and New Horizons is a
fundraising initiative directed to the Santa Clarita business
community that assists CalWORKs and New Horizons students with
products and services that they could not otherwise afford.
Donations can be made in the form of cash, vouchers, coupons,
gift certificates, etc. All CalWORKs and New Horizons students
are eligible.
Angel Connection is a service for needy CalWORKs and New
Horizons students and their families that provides them with
gifts, meals, candies, etc. on holidays such as Halloween and
other Fall Holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and other Winter
Holidays, Easter and other Spring Holidays. All CalWORKs and
New Horizons students are eligible.
Adopt-a-Family is a program designed whereby individuals,
families and organizations are asked to provide CalWORKs and
New Horizons students with moral and/or financial support
throughout a semester and to mentor the students as well. A
contract is drawn up beforehand to determine the type of
support that will be given. It could be assistance with books,
supplies, other ancillary services and/or groceries, evening
babysitting, car maintenance and/or fun things such as a
haircuts, movie tickets and popcorn, family dining-out treat
and/or ice cream treat, etc.
Mentor
Program where by CalWORKs students are matched with COC
faculty and staff to provide academic, professional and/or
life experience mentoring.
Lending
Library for needy students who are not eligible for CalWORKs,
Financial Aid, EOPS/CARE or other supportive services.
CalWORKs students can borrow books while waiting for payment
from GAIN.
