Michele Tamarkin, Licensed Psychotherapist, is an eating disorder specialist, a therapeutic fitness & body-esteem coach and Vice-President of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals in Los Angeles. She has spent the past 15 years specializing in adult and youth eating/weight issues, body-image, self-discovery and personal empowerment. She worked for 3 years at the Eating Disorder Center of California as director of community outreach and program coordinator for the body awareness and eating disorder recovery groups. Her most creative and passionate mission is KidPower!, a psychological & physical fitness approach encouraging healthy habits for kids & families in hopes of preventing childhood obesity, eating disorders and promoting positive body and self-esteem. Michele’s recent endeavors include a collaboration with the Rachel Ray TV website to combat and educate about childhood obesity and a writing a book entitled What’s Eating Our Children?

Sheri Barke

M.A. Public Health

Sheri Barke is a Registered Dietitian specializing in sports nutrition, eating disorders, and weight concerns. After receiving her Bachelors degree in Nutritional Sciences from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Sheri earned a Masters degree in Public Health from UCLA and then worked for 6 years at the UCLA Student Health & Wellness Center.  In the Spring of 2004, Sheri came to work for College of the Canyons and now serves as the Sports & Wellness Dietitian for COC’s Student Health Center.  She provides individual nutrition counseling for students, serves as faculty advisor for the student club “SNAC” (the Student Nutrition and wellness Advocates at COC), teaches an academic class HLHSCI 149 Nutrition for Fitness & Balanced Living, and maintains a comprehensive nutrition web site for students.  Sheri has been awarded “Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year” by the American Dietetic Association for her leadership, innovation, and professional contributions.

Lorie Wallin

Lorie Wallin is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Nutrition Support Dietitian. After graduating with honors from Brigham Young University with her Bachelors of Science in Dietetics, she went on to complete an internship at Olive View/UCLA medical center in Los Angeles, and then worked 3 years at LA County/USC Medical Center. There she specialized in nutrition support, as well as providing nutrition counseling to overweight and obese children at risk for diabetes and heart disease. Lorie now works in private consulting and nutrition counseling with families in the community.
