How
do
I
get
a
virus
scanner
installed
on
my
computer?
College
of
the
Canyons
has
purchased
licenses
for
Norton
Antivirus
for
all
faculty
and
staff
computers.
The
Computer
Support
Services
office
is
in
charge
of
installing
the
software
on
each
licensed
computer.
If
your
computer
does
not
have
Norton
AntiVirus
installed,
call
the
Help
Desk
(3953)
and
request
the
software
installation.
To
determine
if
you
already
have
Norton
Antivirus
installed:
On
Windows
systems:
- Click
on
the
"Start"
button
on
the
Task
bar
- Click
on
the
"Programs"
sub-menu
- Look
for
a
"Norton
Antivirus"
menu
item
- If
you
see
the
"Norton
Antivirus"
menu
item,
then
Norton
Antivirus
is
installed
- If
you
do
not
see
the
"Norton
Antivirus"
menu
item,
then
Norton
Antivirus
is
not
installed
On
Macintosh
systems:
- Click
on
the
"Apple"
menu
- Click
on
the
"Control
Panels"
menu
item
- Look
for
a
"SAM"
or
"Norton
AntiVirus"
item
- If
you
see
the
"SAM"
or
"Norton
Antivirus"
item,
then
Norton
Antivirus
is
installed
- If
you
do
not
see
the
"SAM"
or
"Norton
Antivirus"
item,
then
Norton
Antivirus
is
not
installed
How
do
I
scan
my
computer
for
viruses?

on
the
"Start"
button
on
the
Task
bar
- Click
on
the
"Programs"
sub-menu
- Click
on
the

Antivirus"
sub-menu
item

to
scan
- Click
the

Now"
button
On

systems:

If
Norton
Antivirus

any
infected
files
it
will
display
a
message
indicating
the
infected
file.
Norton
Antivirus
can
sometime
repair
the
file
and
remove
the
virus.
If
this
is
possible,
you
should
select
the
file
and
click
on
the

If
the

button
is

available,
then
Norton

cannot
repair
the
file.
The
next
best
option
is
to
delete
the
file
and
restore
from
an
uninfected
backup.
How
do
I
update
my
virus
scanner?
Updating
your
virus
scanner
is
necessary
in
order
to
protect
you
from
the
latest
viruses.
Just
like
getting
a
flu
shot,
updating
your
virus
scanner
will
make
the
scanner
aware
of
all
the
new
nasties
out
there.
You
should
routinely
and
religiously
update
your
virus
scanner.
IMPORTANT!
Computer
Support
Services
cannot
