Computer Information Technology

 

In the CIT program, you’ll be trained on the latest computer software enabling you to become
more than just a passive user of the internet and computers, but someone who can meet the technology needs of companies, organizations and the community.

What programs are available at College of the Canyons in CIT?

Along with an associate degree and certificate program in Computer Applications and Administrative Assistant, College of the Canyons offers short-term certificates inWebsite Development and E-Commerce Technology.The CIT Department also offers training and authorized testing for Microsoft Business Certification (Microsoft Certified Applications
Specialist), and individual courses in a wide variety of computer technology subjects.

What can I do with a certificate or degree in CIT?

Hardly a business or organization exists anymore than doesn’t conduct some level of operations using computers – from basic accounting to e-commerce. Every one of these companies needs someone who can step in and manage information, design a website, create a database, and ensure the continued and constant access to information and services for their customers.

The CIT degree and certificate are specifically designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in these types of positions, or to provide promotion opportunities in existing positions. Additionally, the CIT curriculum is tailored to meet the needs of business and organizations and constantly responds to new trends and changes in technology.

The CIT degree can also serve as a launching pad to a bright career, as many professionals enter the information technology field with an associate degree and later obtain a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field to realize greater career goals.

What kinds of courses are offered?

The CIT Department offers a large assortment of courses at many convenient times and locations, including the Valencia campus, the Canyon Country campus, online,weekends, and throughout the day and evening.

Instruction is provided not only in advanced computer techniques and programs but also in computer basics, including the Internet, the Microsoft suite of office applications (including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), beginning and advanced QuickBooks,web development tools (including XHTML, CSS,Dreamweaver, Flash, and Photoshop), Adobe Acrobat, e-commerce, and in areas related to office procedures and protocol (including business communications, office procedures, medical office procedures and finances, legal procedures, and document formatting and processing).

Programs are modified frequently and new courses are continually being developed to better serve the community and enhance the learning experience in the CIT Department at College of the Canyons.
