This 1-unit course is designed for students who want to acquire the skills necessary to be a successful online learning student.

Included:

  • Hardware/Software/Plug-Ins
  • Familiarity with the College's Distance Learning web site
  • Internet and Research Techniques
  • Time Management
  • Review of Personal Learning Styles
  • Folder creation and organization
  • Pre-Assessments to Distance Learning
  • Introduction of Blackboard; the College's course management system
  • Synchronous Communication Techniques (Chat/Instant Messaging)
  • Asynchronous Communication Techniques (Email/CMS Discussion areas)

Familiarity with the Windows operating system and keyboarding is assumed.  Offered credit/no credit only.

COUNS 070 is an excellent start for the student contemplating online courses at College of the Canyons. This course is offered in the fall, summer, and spring semesters, and winter intersession.
