Many students register for distance-learning courses
believing that it will require less time. In reality, many
distance-learning courses are more of a time commitment than a
traditional lecture course and I praise you for being up to the
challenge. Though you will spend less time commuting to the
"classroom" the art of discovering information and the
responsibility of scheduling learning into your busy lives, will
be on your shoulders.
There are several things you should be aware of before we
begin:
1. There are no face-to-face meetings for this course
– it is 100% online. It is ESSENTIAL that
you read through ALL course materials
located on the course website. The course website will
be available beginning the first day of class.
2. Course Website: http://bb7.canyons.edu (note there
is NO "www")
Your Username is your 7-digit student
ID number
Password is "student" (Each student
has only one username and password
regardless of how many courses they are
registered for)
For additional assistance with
Blackboard’s log in procedure, visit:
http://www.canyons.edu/faculty/labriem/Blackboard.asp
For assistance with the "How To" of
Blackboard, visit:
http://www.canyons.edu/offices/distance_learning/blackboard
Or call 661-362-3344
Or direct your question via e-mail to
bbsupport@canyons.edu
3. The first step after your login should include
resetting your password and entering your email address.
Both of these steps can be completed under the "Tools"
menu and then click "Personal Information". For help,
visit:
http://www.canyons.edu/offices/distance_learning/blackboard/edit.asp
4. You should be computer literate, with at least
basic knowledge of Internet navigation and email
procedures. The college can only provide minimal
technological support. If you have any doubts an online
evaluation tool is available for you to test your online
course readiness at:
http://www.canyons.edu/Offices/Distance_Learning/info/Assessments.asp
5. Here are some additional online tools and surveys
to help you assist your strengths as an online learner,
your strengths as a learner in general and tips on
becoming a better online student:
