Dear Student:
You have signed
up for Music 112, section # 70520 or 70521,
the Online Music History (OMH) at College of the Canyons, so I
want to welcome you. My name Bernardo Feldman and I will be
your instructor for this course.
The entire
course will be done on-line. You need the CD-ROM called On
Music History (OMH), by Icubed, for the on-line class.
(Please note that
we do not use “BLACKBOARD”
nor any other software program
besides OnMusic History for this online course).
The CD-ROM
includes all the material you will need and it contains the
equivalent of thirty CDs worth of music from the Naxos
Catalogue, 188 graphics and 10 Quick time movies. Do not buy a
second hand CD-ROM because each one gets assigned a unique
number that links up with your grades. You can get this CD-ROM
at the COC bookstore. Please try to buy it by the time our
class begins and be ready to start. We will move quite rapidly
through the material and I do not allow students to fall
behind.
Inside the CD-ROM
box that you buy there should be a printed page with detailed
instructions on how to login and register your CD-ROM. Read
the instructions and follow them carefully. Logging in and
getting your computer to play the music extracts is frequently
the biggest hurdle of the course. Once you do that, it should
be a most enjoyable experience, full of wonderful music to
listen to. (Note: make sure you register for the correct
course (OMH) and no other. The mouse here tends to play tricks
on you and 50% of the students end up in the wrong course!)
Here is a link
that might help you if you need more information than the one
provided by the printed sheet inside the CD-ROM box:
http://www.icubed.org/oma/OMHCourseIntro.htm
Once you login,
you can go to the section labeled Brief Index. You will then
see the layout of the course, the topics we will cover and the
deadlines for quizzes and essays. All of this will be clearer
when you have the page in front of you. Take time to explore
the site. Click on the various tags to see what they contain,
but do not try to open any quizzes or exams for it will
force you to take them there and then.
Please login in within the next three days,
otherwise you might will be dropped from the course.
Detailed instructions on how to login can be found in two
places:
1) the printed sheet that comes inside your CD-ROM box
2) the e-mail address that is given in this letter or
orientation.
