THERE IS MORE THAN ONE
LETTER LISTED.
PLEASE READ THE CORRECT LETTER FOR YOUR SECTION NUMBER. |
|
Dear Student:
I would like to introduce myself to
you. I am Kevin Jenkins, Professor of Graphic and Multimedia
Design at College of the Canyons, and your instructor for this
online course. Welcome to a wonderful course that will introduce
you to the use of cameras and composing photographic images.
Many students register for
distance-learning courses believing that it will require less
time. Though you will spend less time in the classroom the art
of discovering information, and the responsibility of scheduling
learning into your busy lives, will be on your shoulders. In
reality, many distance-learning courses are more of a time
commitment than a traditional lecture course, and I praise you
for being up to the challenge.
There are several things you should be
aware of before we begin:
1. There are NO face-to-face
meetings for this course – it is completely online. It is
ESSENTIAL that you read through ALL course
materials located on the course website. The course website
will be available beginning the first day of class (please
see the schedule of classes for specific date).
2. Course Website:
http://bb7.canyons.edu/ (note there is NO "www")
Your login is your 7 digit
COC student ID number: ID # 1234567, would login
1234567
Password is "student" (For
current/past Blackboard students, use the password
you submitted)
For assistance with the
Blackboard site:
http://www.canyons.edu/Offices/Distance_Learning/
or call 661-362-3344 or direct your question via
e-mail to
bbsupport@canyons.edu
3. The first step after your login
should include resetting your password and entering your
email address. Both of these steps can be completed under
the "Tools" menu and then click "Personal Information".
3. You should be computer
literate, with at least basic knowledge of Internet
navigation and email procedures. The college can only
provide minimal technological support.
4. You must have access to a
film or digital manually adjustable camera as well as
imaging editing software, both of which are necessary for
the successful completion of this course. If you do not own
a camera the college photo lab, located in Mentry Hall, Room
121, has both film and digital cameras available for 7-day
checkout. In order to check out a camera you must present a
copy of your class schedule and your valid COC student ID.
If you don’t know if your camera is capable of manual
exposure then stop by the lab for help.
5. The course will require
approximately 10-12 hours of time per week and your daily
presence on the class discussion board is required.
Generally, each week you can
expect to complete the following coursework:
- Read 2-3 chapters from your textbook, Barbara London’s
Short Course in Photography, eighth Edition,
ISBN-13: 9780136038171, which can be purchased at the COC
bookstore or at an online book reseller.
- Review 3-4 online PowerPoint lectures.
- Complete one photo-based assignment and participate in
an online critique for that assignment.
- Participate in an online discussion regarding a specific
discussion topic.
- Complete one online quiz.
If you have any questions please do
not hesitate to email me.
Sincerely,
Kevin Jenkins
