Change of Status Preparation & Procedure

Obtaining an International Student Status requires planning and preparation. This page contains important information about change of status applications. Failure to follow these instructions or inadequate preparation can result in significant and costly delays in your attendance at COC.

To apply for an F-1 status, you will need to:

  1. Pay the SEVIS fee.

  2. Submit required documentation to the USCIS before your current status expires.

  3. Submit the Notice of Action document (I-797), Receipt Notice, to the ISP office as you receive it from the USCIS.

  4. Submit the Notice of Action document (I-797), Approval Notice, and the I-20 with an "Approved" stamp to the ISP office as you receive it from the USCIS.
