As the Superintendent-President of College of the Canyons, it is
with pride that I share this information about our California
community college. With a total of 1.4 million students, the 107
California community colleges form the largest system of higher
education in the world. College of the Canyons has the advantage of
having a large beautiful campus, in a safe, suburban community, with
the friendly atmosphere found at small colleges. Approximately 15,000 students attend each semester.
I am very proud of College of the Canyons and all that it has for
students. So that you can share in my pride, let me give you some
information about the college.
When college students transfer to universities, they do very well.
Information from California State University, Northridge shows
that our students achieve higher grade point averages in their
junior year at the university than students who started at the
university.
College of the Canyons has transfer agreements with many
universities,
including University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), at
Riverside and at Santa Cruz, and the University of Southern
California (USC). We also have agreements with Pepperdine, Chapman
University and Pomona College. In recent years, 100 percent of the
College of the Canyons students who applied to the College of
Letters and Sciences at UCLA have been accepted into the
prestigious university.
College of the Canyons has certificate career preparation
programs that are recognized throughout the state. For example,
our nationally accredited Nursing program can boast that 100
percent of the graduates have passed the state mandated nursing
examinations.
On campus, our student activities organization is strong,
providing many opportunities for students to become involved in
clubs and student leadership roles. Our faculty and staff are a
caring group of people whose focus is on teaching and learning and
helping you succeed. Instead of research and publishing being
their goal, they focus their efforts towards you.
