College of the Canyons
is committed to student
success and retention.
The Early Alert Program
has been established to
support student success
by creating partnerships
between instructors,
counselors, and academic
support staff.
The Early Alert Referral
Form is a tool that
allows instructional
faculty to identify
students who are having
academic difficulties
and connect them with
the appropriate
supportive resources on
campus.
Faculty can also choose
to write a personal
message to the student
that will appear in the
alert.
The referral
form is available to use
from the first day of
the semester until a few
days before
the last day to drop
with a W. Early Alert
may be utilized until
the last Friday before
finals week.

Question: Where
is the "save" button on
the Early Alert Referral
Form?
Answer: The
"Submit" button is the
button that will, in
effect, "save" your
alert.
Question: Is
there a drop down menu
on the Early Alert
Referral Form where I
can
select individual
students, or do I need
to enter an ID?
Answer: If you
would like to send an
alert to one student,
you may enter the ID of
the student in the
"Student ID" field OR
you may go to the course
drop down menu (small
arrow in a box) to first
choose your course and
then check the student
on the roster. If you
select multiple students
from the roster, keep in
mind that all of the
students you choose will
get the same alert
concern or set of
concerns.
Question:
When I am in the Early
Alert Form, I am
clicking, but nothing
happens. Why can I
not make the Course Term
or roster populate?
Answer: Be
sure you are not in the
pdf Early Alert Form
that is provided on the
Faculty Information Page
that is provided as a
sample. Try
closing the window and
then scrolling down to
click on "Continue" to
proceed to the actual
Early Alert Form.
If you are able to click
on the drop down menu,
(small arrow next to
Course Term) you are in
the right screen.

I know my Alerts have
been sent? How do
I know which students
have received an Early

Answer: Refer to th e
Early Alert Instructions
on the Faculty
Information Page (after
you log in) to
view your Early Alert
Report.
