GROUNDBREAKING FOR CANYON COUNTRY EDUCATION CENTER

Event: A groundbreaking ceremony for a new College of the Canyons Education Center (a second campus) on Sierra Highway in Canyon Country.
Speaking at the event will be Joan MacGregor, President of the college's Board of Trustees; Dianne G. Van Hook, Superintendent-President; Mr. Bob Kellar, Councilmember, City of Santa Clarita; Dr. Carole Long, Interim Vice President, Instruction and Community Extension; and Mr. Ryan Manning, College of the Canyons student.
Located on a 70-acre site along Sierra Highway, the Canyon Country Educational Center will be open for classes in 24,000 square feet of modular buildings in the 2006-07 school year, and is expected to draw 3,000 students from the eastern Santa Clarita Valley.
The first permanent building on campus could start construction as early as 2007. The State of California has approved an $18 million allocation in capital outlay funds for a 50,000-square-foot building.
