MISSION

The mission of the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons is to educate, entertain and enrich our community through a diverse blend of professional, educational and community programming.

VISION

The Performing Arts Center is an enduring facility that will grow, adapt and respond to changes in the future, reflecting the evolving needs, desires and interests of the community. FROM THE SOUTH, take Interstate 5 north to Valencia Boulevard. Turn right onto Valencia Boulevard. At the third light (counting the off-ramp light) turn right onto Rockwell Canyon Road. Enter the college at the electronic marquee situated opposite the Performing Arts Center (the fourth parking lot entrance on the right).

FROM THE NORTH, take Interstate 5 south to Valencia Boulevard (just past Magic Mountain). Turn left onto Valencia Boulevard. At the fourth light (counting the off-ramp light) turn right onto Rockwell Canyon Road. Enter the college at the electronic marquee situated opposite the Performing Arts Center (the fourth parking lot entrance on the right).

PARKING

College of the Canyons has ample parking for all events held on its campus. For performances on Monday-Friday evenings, parking is not available in Lots 1, 2 or 3 until after 7 pm. However, for evening performances Monday-Friday, parking is available in Lots 4, 5, 6, or 7 one hour prior to the scheduled event time. For performances on Saturday or Sunday, parking is available in Lots 1 through 7 starting two hours prior to event time until two hours after the event ends. Please keep in mind that Campus Safety personnel will enforce parking rules when any car is parked on red curbs, in accessible spaces without the proper permit, outside of a designated space, in front of a doorway, or in a construction site. Bus parking will be coordinated with Campus Safety and must be arranged at least three business days prior to the event.

BOX OFFICE PARKING

The Box Office provides four 20-minute designated parking spaces in Lot 4 to assist with parking when visiting the PAC Box Office during daily business hours. Parking Lot 4 can be accessed via the third entrance on Rockwell Canyon Road from Valencia Boulevard. The designated spaces, closest to the venue, are indicated with green paint and a sign stating “20 minute PAC Box Office parking only.”

OVERVIEW

The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center is located on the campus of College of the Canyons, a California community college located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91355. The $18.3-million facility boasts a spectacular 7,500-square-foot proscenium theater with a state-of-the-art sound system and 886 seats, as well as the experimental Black Box theater. Funded by the State of California ($15.9 million) and the City of Santa Clarita ($2.4 million), the 47,000 square-foot center features instructional, community and professional entertainment and informational programs. Designed with a green room, scene shops, costume and property storage, orchestra pit, make-up/dressing room areas, lockers, showers, ticket booth and snack bar, the Performing Arts Center is a one-of-a-kind performance destination for community members in the Santa Clarita Valley.

HISTORY

College of the Canyons’ founders planned for the college to have three main focuses: academic transfer, technology and the arts. A performing arts center was an integral part of the college’s plans for more than 30 years and was finally funded by the State of California in 1999. A partnership with the City of Santa Clarita provided an additional $2.4 million that allowed for a considerable expansion of seating over earlier plans, as well as the addition of a planned sculpture garden as part of the building’s landscaping. The architectural firm Spencer/Hoskins & Associates of Pasadena designed the building. Ground was broken in December 2001. The facility was completed in the summer of 2004, with a gala opening on Oct. 15, 2004.

ACCESSIBILITY

The Performing Arts Center has been constructed to accommodate patrons with accessibility requirements. Accessible seating is available on the main floor in the Orchestra seating section of Row E or the Rear Orchestra section of Row P. An usher will be happy to escort you to the elevator for access to Row E of the Orchestra. Transfer seats may also be available and an usher will be happy to assist with the storing of your wheelchair during the performance. Along with advance notice, it is recommended that patrons using wheelchairs be accompanied by a companion to provide assistance. Seating for up to three companion patrons is available next to the wheelchair or transfer accessible patron seat. Depending on availability, seats for additional guests will be located as close as possible to the accessible seat location. Patrons, who wish to request additional disability-related accommodations, including sign-language interpreters, should contact the PAC Box Office & Patron Services at (661) 362-5304 no later than two weeks prior to the performance date to ensure best possible arrangements. The Black Box venue and the Cabaret on Stage venue have also been constructed to accommodate attendance by patrons with accessibility requirements.

Please Note: Wheelchair (remain in wheelchair) and Transfer (wheelchair patron transfers to theatre seat) seating is reserved exclusively for patrons with accessible needs and their companions (up to three companions per wheelchair and transfer accessible patron). The purchase or use of accessible seating by patrons without accessible needs is strictly prohibited and can result in relocation or revoked ticket privileges without refund.

The main stage of the Performing Arts Center is equipped with an Infrared assistive listening system and headsets may be used at any seat. Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) amplify and clarify sound by cutting down or eliminating ambient noise. Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) may be requested from any usher or house manager upon arrival at the performance in the PAC Lobby. Please note that a photo ID or credit card is required to check out an ALD for the duration of the performance.

SUITABLE FOR YOUTH

Performances throughout the season represent a wide range of artistic expression and audience appeal. While many performances may be appropriate for younger children, it is always best to read the event description and content notes of every performance so you can make the best decision for your family and children.

BOX OFFICE

The PAC Box Office is located at the venue (north end of lobby) and is accessed from the outside through ticket windows. Hours of operation are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The PAC Box Office is also open two hours prior to show time for main stage events, and one hour prior to show time for Black Box events. Intimate Group: 10 to 24 people receive a 10 percent discount off the regular ticket price.
Medium Group: 25 to 49 people receive a 15 percent discount off the regular ticket price.
Large Group: 50 or more people receive a 20 percent discount off the regular ticket price.

GIFT CERTIFICATES

Gift certificates may be purchased through the Box Office or online in a variety of denominations and are redeemable for COC Presents and Arts on Campus (college productions) performances, depending on seating available at time of redemption.

BLACK BOX THEATER

The Black Box, located at the northwest end of the PAC, is a unique “flexible seating” venue featuring new and experimental productions. Due to the nature of the theater, the exact number of seats available for performances is often not known until close to opening night. Therefore, a limited number of seats will be placed on sale at the beginning of the season until the exact seating count has been confirmed by the technical staff.
