They are engaged and excited to learn through digital media. Digital media as a teaching tool is immediate, relevant and current. The MFC project was conceptualized, designed and implemented by the Mary Pickford Institute for Film Education as a unique educational opportunity on wheels. Each vehicle is a complete mobile digital production unit equipped with iMac workstations, cameras, microphones, video and audio editing software, sound recording booth and DVD production equipment. Instructors guide students through the digital media creation process, as they create their own, unique video projects. Since its inception in early 2006, the Mobile Film Classroom has served more than 5,000 Los Angeles area elementary, middle and high school students.

Santa Clarita Symphony: Children’s Instrument Petting Zoo

This hands-on musical experience is now available for your school. Each instrument petting zoo showcases a particular instrument demonstrated by one of the symphony’s talented professional musicians. I am extremely pleased that College of the Canyons and the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) are able to serve the growing arts education needs in K-12 schools in our valley. I hope you will take advantage of the programs being offered for the 2009-2010 academic year including: school assemblies, bus-in programs and classroom visits, many of which are subsidized by grants. All of this year’s programs meet or exceed the state of California’s Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) standards. I look forward to working with you and creating a long-lasting relationship that will result in the ability to offer children the highest level of arts education. Special thanks to College of the Canyons Chancellor Dr. Dianne Van Hook; Dean of Fine and Performing Arts Dr. Floyd Moos; the PAC Arts Education Advisory Committee and K-12 Arts Education advocate Rita Garasi for helping us spearhead this wonderful vision.
