Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra Offers Free Concert at PAC
This month, members of the highly acclaimed Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) will take the stage at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) at College of the Canyons for a free community concert featuring a selection of classical music.
Regarded for its virtuosic music making and signature style, LACO was originally founded in 1968. Since then, the 40-member orchestra has acquired a reputation as one of the foremost ensembles of its kind in the world -- prompting respected music critic Jim Svejda to hail LACO as “America’s finest chamber orchestra.”
As part of the PAC’s ongoing Stimulus Series concert lineup, LACO musicians Joshua Ranz, clarinet; Roland Kato, viola; and Gavin Martin, piano; will perform on the PAC main stage at 7 p.m., Tuesday, January 26.
“This will mark the third year in a row that LACO musicians have played the PAC,” said Adam Philipson, PAC managing director. “We are happy to continue this unique tradition by offering community members a chance to experience world class chamber music right here in their own backyard.”
Admission to the performance is free, with seating available on a first-come first-served basis.
Music selections for the evening will include:
• Robert Schumann, “Fantasiestucke,” Op. 73 for Clarinet and Piano
• Max Christian Friedrich Bruch, selections from "8 Pieces,” Pp. 83 for Clarinet, Viola and Piano
• Johannes Brahms, Sonata in F minor Op. 120 No. 1 for Clarinet and Piano
In signature LACO style, musicians will introduce the music from the stage, putting a personal stamp on the evening and inviting audience members into the experience.
